Why do you hate on American fighters all the time? Joe Smith is far more proven at the top level that Barrera is, Barrera got shutout against Ward and dropped, was dropped and hurt by glass jawed Shabranskyy, and rocked by Paul Parker and Zoulikha, Smith has ridiculous power, and he knows how to deliver it, Barrera can stop you, but he's an accumulation puncher, will he be able to do enough damage to Joe to dissuade him early from pressing forward? Doubtful. Stop being such a hater.
Im expecting Smith to bomb him out. Hagler was a construction worker , we all saw where he went. Smith is primed , aggressive , has a good engine and won't accept defeat without bringing a war to Sully Berrera. Good fight , im looking forward to it.
I don't hate on US fighters at all, I like Spence and few others, nothing against Smith. Fonfara is mediocre and Hopkins was more of an exhibition fight than anything. This is Smith's first test. I don't think his power is ridiculous, Hopkins was not afraid to trade with him, something he was scared to death to do against Kovalev. Barrera was dropped by Shabb and came back, that's a good sign for a fighter.
I don't rate Shabb as highly as I do Fonfara, Slava is mediocre, he was easily the weak link of all the EE LHW's. The B-Hop match wasn't an exhibition, and he didn't attempt to trade with him, Smith was hurting Hopkins every time he landed clean. And please don't say his power isn't ridiculous by comparing it to Kovalev. And for the record, his power seems better than Stevenson's since even in the rematch he didn't take Fonfara out as quickly, unlike Kovalev he actually stopped the old man, and he took out Cummings in almost as impressive a fashion as Gvozdyk, his power is legit. Look at the hook that puts him down at around 11:15, its beautiful. This content is protected
This is going to be a hard fought gritty fight. I pick Smith by knockout but idk if his power carries late into the fight. Hopefully we find out.
Of course Smith beats Barrera. Man if I know carribean fighters like I think I do, Sullivan fights and then chills all year long eating fritangas and plantain's until another fight comes up. Joe is out busting up concrete, building America in the heat and cold, and staying in shape through real hard work. Those Gold Medals don't make your chin tougher ,they just look good on paper and on your trophy case. Shout out to Bruce Jenner aka Caitlyn, Oylmpic medalist.
Good match up, should be a good scrap while it lasts. Barrera will probably do him like he did Shabranskyy. If Smith beats Barrera though, he will be acknowledged as the real deal.
Could be, I haven't seen enough of either guy to really analyze the match up much. Fonfara wasn't even decent anymore when Smith faced him. And Hopkins was like 75 years old. Smith doens't look like he has more boxing skill than Shabranskyy though. Barrera should be able to get him out of there. If Smith wins this, he's the real deal.
It's a very interesting match-up to ponder for a bit. Not sure who's going to win... but I hope Joe Smith Jr. is the victor. It can happen too, because Sully is not really all that elusive (despite his advantage when it comes to amateur experience). I definitely believe Joe has the power to end the fight at any moment... and the longer the fight goes, the more opportunities Sully will eventually give him. We'll see what happens.
Gold medals in boxing makes you a great fighter Smith is just an amateur playing the big leagues he was exposed tonight thanks he got a second career as a brick layer.
Smith has power to spare, but he can't box......................he almost knocked Barrera out in the first round, knocked him down at the end of the round, but he can't box, no experience....................Barrera will fight Kovalev next....................Kovalev by knockout, unless Roc Nation buys the referee, judges, boxing commisison, etc.
I can't help but to think this was another emotional dead wrong pick by you like when you said Ward would get ko'd in 3 rounds against Kovalev in the rematch.
