I've been ready NY about how the ancient Sullivan in 1906 came out of retirement weighing 287 pounds and fought an actual live body named Jim McCormic and iced him. Is this a true story or fabricated ?
I don't think there's any doubt that it happened. McCormick claimed later that he'd gone in expecting a sparring exhibition and Sullivan basically ambushed him. As we all know, being old and fat doesn't mean you can't punch. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88085421/1905-03-14/ed-1/seq-6/
It's true.McCormick /McCormack had a win and a draw with Joe Goddard and a win over Kid McCoy This excellent article gives a report of the fight. http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=163766 This content is protected I did have a photo of Sullivan and McCormick together but when I upgraded my computer it got erased.:|
I did this in a thread a few months ago. It was actually a different, and far less renowned, Jim McCormick that he beat. I forget the exact details.
The other one came from Texas and drew with a middleweight version of Jack Johnson. He also ko'd Denver Ed Smith and Mexican Pete Everett. The article says McCormick was training to fight Kid McCoy that is the one whose partial resume I posted Jack McCormick was not only an active fighter and sparring partner to the top men he was also Marvin Hart's manager! Whichever one he was, their resumes are pretty much the same from a point of view of victories over name opponents.
If an old fat Jeffries could ice this man, who was going the distance with some of the better heavyweight contenders of the day, then what would he have done to these guys in his prime.
OK, we are friends again. Next time a poster challenges you to a fight, respectfully tell them that it would be bad for the forum!
