Any thoughts on this forgotten gem of a fight? Before Kalambay made some noise in the MW division with wins over Herol Graham, Iran Barkley, and Mike McCallum he fought former 154 champ Ayub Kalule in a good fought technical match. I personally thought Kalambay did enough to win but it was still a competitive match. The video quality isn't the best but still clear enough to appreciate the action shown in this fight. Good fight I thought it was a pretty clear win for Kalambay personally but overall still a good technical fight
I remember this fight. Kalambay is one of those guys that had the talent to be a hall of famer but just didn't quite do enough to make it. Like Ike Quartey at WW, Kalambay was someone that folks were not lining up to fight. Had he been more popular and had better promotion he would be a shoe in for the hof. Of course, getting blown out by Nunn didn't help his cause either.
Kalambay is a HOF worthy fighter IMO. He was seen as one of the best MWs for a spell. The Nunn KO1 loss did hurt him a lot but he still ended up racking up enough solid wins on his resume that makes him deserving a spot, especially compared to the likes of Gatti, McGuigan, Corrales, Hatton, Moorer.
