This was always an intriguing one, as going to the U.S. and getting outboxed by Duane Thomas would indicate that Kalambay still had some learning to do. Thomas was a good fighter, but he was clearly smaller and had less success at 154 than Kalambay did at 160, so you'd think that Kalambay would hold the edge. Eh. It's kind of pointless to score, as they clipped about 30-60 seconds out of each round. Kalambay threw the sharper punches and had much more success going to the body than Thomas (he blocked most of Thomas's bodyshots). Thomas managed to drive him back a few times, but Kalambay often managed to counter Thomas's landed rights with his right uppercut or body blows. Sumbu really came on strong in the final two rounds. Thomas's guard did pick off a lot of Kalambay's shots. I thought that Kalambay looked the better of the two, but, again, there was a lot cut out of the video.
