Sumbu is the more complete and better boxer, but he had trouble against southpaws. Kalule, Nunn and Graham all had varying degree of success with their straight left against Sumbu, and none of them had Martinez power I'd say. Hard one to call.
Kalambay was a level above Martinez, to be quite honest. I think he takes Martinez apart for a stoppage honestly.
Kalambay's too skilled. He'd ice Martinez with counter punches. Martinez drops his hands after every punch that he throws. He also feints before every "jab." He really has no jab. Kalambay would anticipate it easily.
I think Sergio Martinez will give Kalambay fits in the first few rounds before Kalambay starts to find his rhythm and time him with counter rights. Kalambay would have outboxed Martinez clearly.
I think it's a pickem fight. I think Sumbu is the more complete fighter but he doesn't have the raw athletic gifts that Martinez has. Sure Sumbu is fast and skilled but Martinez had truly incredible hand speed and was a high motor guy that could simply outwork guys with his combination punching. I favor Sumbu but a guy like Martinez could knock off just about anyone.
