How many times can you remember a big British promotion on a Sunday? From memory I can recall Benn v Watson and I also think Tony Sibson v Frank Tate was on a Sunday. Any more?
Makabu v Bellew was a Sunday night. If a remember correctly there was a bank holiday on the Monday so it was a pretty good night for it. They should do it more often on Sundays where there’s a bank holiday the next day. There’s always a football fixture on the Sunday late afternoon around 4pm so it would feed quite nicely into a boxing card to capitalise on the casual sports viewers.
Benn v Watson was only for the commonwealth title though, both fighters got bigger TV ratings for their eventual world title fights.
Eubank v Benn 1. Jim McDonnell v Azumha Nelson both ITV. At least one Lloyd Honeyghan world title fight BBC. Several early Lennox Lewis fights on ITV and his fight with Justin Fortune in Dublin on Sky. Great days, huge ratings and boxers were household numbers. The top ten sporting tv audiences regularly had 8/10 being fights.
