Does anybody know what type of crowd turnout they got for the Geale card yesterday? It was a solid card so hopefully there were reasonable numbers there. It is sometimes hard to tell when watching on TV.
Plenty of empty seats around me, and would not have forked out the price on the tickets 2 b honest (a mate got 'em for me late on Fri thru his wk). The fights were great but not the best run event, **** overpriced food always puts me off. Mind you I had a bad cold, and couldn't drink so was grumpy to start with. I have been told I whinge alot too. . . . Definitely was not a sellout, and I know a few who had no idea it was even on.
It looked like they sold out all the ringside tables but the seating above would of been 3/4 empty. pretty dissapointing turnout
Same thing with the Grange card in Wollongong a few months ago, all the tables full but the grand stands half empty. I'm guessing they make there money on the tables charging about 1200 a table with 3 course meals and grog.
With the tix labelled as being $130 I can see why many would stay home and order it on TV - personally like to see fights live, but all the other disorganisation takes away from the overall experience. Someone like Geale deserves to fill a venue and have some genuine crowd enthusiasm.
Great card for the boxing enthusiasts! to the general sporting public, means **** all to them...Geale will eventually get the general supporting public once his name gets out more on a global scale and becomes an Australian household name. Paul Briggs fight against Stipe Drews at the State Sports Centre was the last fight I remember which was quite packed. Promoters make more money on the corporate side including sponsors...I wouldn't be surprised if halve the general tickets Last Sunday were free!
