Does anyone else feel the Super 6 tournament could be handled a lot better? Obviously this is most likely the first of many so there are going to hiccups and controversy. But it seems after every bout there seems to be a lot of complaining from the camp that lost...hometown decisions, DQ's, etc. I think the concept is amazing, but it is making headlines for the wrong reasons after every bout. Throwing 6 top athletes together like this is no doubt hard work, trying to sort out the locations of the bouts and such. Do you think it would be easier if all bouts were located in neutral countries/cities around the world? It would bring the action between top athletes to a wider Live audience. Feel free to leave a comment about what improvements could be made if there is ever another Super 6...because the way this tournament is going, we could probably skip straight to the semi-finals with the number of boxers threatening to walk away.
How about all these tough pro fighters quit crying and bitching, and learn how to lose. Losing is a part of the game, if you can't do it. Stop playing.
Well thats what you get when you throw 6 top athletes together...it's easy enough saying why don't they quit crying, but they are competitive by nature. Any suggestions on how they can make the rest of this tournament easier, or the following tournament run smoother?
The fact that ward gets to stay at home for all his fights tells you all you need to know about this tournament and the way it's being controlled. They see ward as their winner and want him as their new star and are just making double sure that he wins.
Yep...it does seem a bit strange how they've come to this decision. It also seems likely that whoever travels away from home has 2 opponents...the guy in the opposite corner, and the judges. Obviously this happens in a lot of normal bouts anyway, but the Super 6 was meant to open boxing upto a wider audience...and basically they have just f***** it up. Controversy in almost every bout so far, they are more likely going to turn people away from the sport.
Not complaining about the bouts...it's very compelling viewing. But this Super 6 concept is great for the sport, yet it isn't having the desired effect as of yet.
Froch gets to fight twice out of Nottingham. Ward gets to fight twice out of Oakland. No site for the third fight has been decided yet, but Shaw has said that he will not fight in Oakland and Goosen has agreed to Detroit in principle. The US is a large country. Fighting out of Detroit and fighting out of Oakland are very different. If Ward fights in Detroit against Dirrell he most definitely does not get to fight at home.
Money. Promoters want money, showtime wants money, fighters want money. Fighting in a neutral area where it's harder for both fighters fans to make it to the event is a sure way to lessen the amount of money involved for everyone. Agree about the refs and judges though.
Bingo. Honestly, as much as we would like to see completely neutral locations for this fight, it will not happen. The European fighters bring way too much too the table when they fight at home, and Ward is building a following over here. We may get some neutral locale fights, but not many.
Well, I would agree with you guys if it wasn't for a few facts. Although Ward isn't fighting abroad he dominated Kessler and never left it up to the judges. Now Froch was comfortable with the decision in his own backyard when it benefited him against Dirrell and the Americans complained. Froch's uncomfortable with a Danish decision against him vs Froch. When Dirrell gets a fight in his own backyard he doesn't leave it up to the judges either, he dominates his man. Now one thing the tournement does show is that losing isn't everything. You could lose badly like Kessler and be facing another title and chance at the top. That's the beauty, is the changing forces with each new set of fighters. If Ward wins the tournament it will be from outclassing all opponents not from hometown decisions. I think, in other words, everyone is being ****en whiny about these matches.
I just think that it is whining because of their ego. The only decision that I didn't really agree with was the Dirrell-Froch fight but other than that its been fair. If Allan Green is from Miami why don't they fight there-although florida judges are notoriously stupid-their athletic commission is a joke too
