I honestly think he just sounds like a typical man on a script with a bit of difficulty… I’d sound like a damn fool if I had to remember everything Corbett said in the beginning, he sounded a lot clearer talking boxing.
Just adding… it’s weird seeing how oddly big Corbett actually is next to regular people almost like he’s a HW champ? in my head he’s a little guy, a little guy with flicked back hair that dances around probing at some behemoth and then I realised I’d be David if we ever met… I wonder how he’d look next to Marciano?
Man, is that Corbett as a old man cos he looks about 60 or is that just how young people looked back then before color was invented? ha ha
I love these clips, one thing always catches my eye in many of these old films, the fighters themselves. I keep hearing constantly about how modern training methods are superior to what they did make then, Horse hockey! those guys were in incredible physical condition with immense stamina. With the amount of fights they had they were always in shape.
Corbett looks in good shape at 65 years of age. Incredible to think he was dead of cancer less than a year later.
Corbett was actually quite tall for his time - I often think he might’ve been closer to 6’2” than 6’1”. He often appeared to edge Jeffries in height and was taller than later Champs Dempsey and Tunney. Pompous and racist, yes, but he did have charisma and he spoke very well. Never seen this before, great find!
Really great footage. Corbett had an interesting accent. This kind of footage is a gem. Loved watching Jefferies talk as well.
