Super Joe Calzaghe vs Andrew SOG Ward?

Ward was dull as fk & cheated his way to his wins. Clearly juiced too. Neutral Territory with a competent ref Calzaghe outworks him. Kessler & Bika rate him as their best opponent.

 

Joe had a superior ring IQ and superior hand speed. He’d slap the **** out of that billy goat.

 

I think Calzaghe wins. His work rate and pressure would tell. Watch back the Froch/Ward fight. If that was a 15 rounder Froch might've come back in to it as Ward was beginning to wilt. If someone as basic as Froch can do that then I reckon Calzaghe would've won. Would've been a very close fight though.

Everything I said was genuine.

He never faced any guy as good.

He also struggled with lesser guys, and guys with stylistic similarities.

That’s a fact.

So yeah, of course Joe could have beaten him.

He was a great fighter. But he never did anything in his career for you to be convinced that he’d have easily beaten him.

 

You can also look at many of Joe’s fights from the same viewpoint.

 

He had an excellent engine and fought at a high pace.

 

Its pretty funny how Ward makes posters on this site seethe.

I just saw the poll results and feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Joe is a contemporary great, Ward is an all-time great.
