i never post on this site but read the posts everday, why do you yanks hate calzaghe, you all say he is over rated?? he is ring champ in two weight div, number 2 p4p in the ring rankings. he has beaten everyone at supermiddle and beaten the number one light heavy.hes good to watch apart from the hopkins fight because of hops trying to hug him and trying to cheat. and if you want to talk about over rated lets talk about jeff lacy the next great yank hope who was so over rated and hyped up by you lot that he was bookies fav to beat calzaghe, calzaghe gave him a 12 round boxing lesson,it was the most one sided beating in a big fight in years yet lacy still somehow get hyped up and has a fight coming up on hbo,how does that work! anyway let the fun start reply!

I am a JC fan but the bottom line is regardless of titles you are only as good as the fighters you beat. JC has beaten Lacy, Kessler & Hopkins (and Hopkins is 43 years old so big deal). So while JC is one of the best fighters he probably is overrated at #2 or #1.

Yeah old but, I will entertain your question. The reason people criticize Calzaghe is his inability to step up and take fights that will challenge him, ones where the odds aren't clearly in his favor. If he had done that and done it often he would get more respect from every type of fan.

Because now that he has the "hes old" excuse in the bag he decides to take the good fights.. Wait, wasnt he suppose to fight Pavlik?

Yeah, he still needs to prove he has something between his legs.

pavlik and calzaghe are two weights apart.after there next fights they will be closer in weight and the fight should happen. unless calzaghe retires and if he does he hasnt ducked pavlik, its not as if pav has been calling calzaghe out for years,he has only become a big name in the last year.

The topic has been utterly done to the death on here, I'm so exhausted of it I can only manage three more words: VERY MEDIOCRE RESUME.

I can't stand Calzaghe....I don't like his personality and his style is f'n gay....but I do respect him as a fighter. He does deserve more respect than Americans give him for his accomplishments. Yeah, he did cherry pick most of his career and I think his 20+ title defenses is a total farce...but at least he did finally grow some stones in the twilight of his career and partially unified the div. Just don't see how such a DOMINANT fighter is a champion for that long and doesn't become undisputed. Roy held all the belts at 175 and hopkins became undisputed after beating Trinidad.

That aside, he did beat Kessler....the guy that the boxing world demand he fight and he did beat him convincingly. I personally think the Hopkins fight was at best a draw for JC but hey, I wasn't one of the judges. My point is, as much as it pains me to say it, the guy is a damn good fighter....just don't think hes a great fighter.

Respectfully have to disagree. 168 has been a European private club almost for over a decade.

I am the Joe Cal Dragon! But I don't think he is any more hated than any other major fighter on here. We've all seen the criticisms of Floyd, Pacman, Margarito, Cotto, Pavlik, etc etc. Actually, I've seen a lot of people overrating Cal and giving him more credit than he has proven, ie that he is 1 of the top 3 of his era etc. I love Joe Calzaghe because I think he is an immense talent and I love watching him, but the rather unsavoury reality is he didn't get the fights to match his gifts, so I honestly don't think he should be p4p#1. Maybe yes if he fights Pavlik and wins, but if he doesn't, I don't think a good win over Lacy, a very good win over Kessler, and an unimpressive win over a past-prime big name (Hopkins), mean he has a good resume. (I love Joe, but I am a boxing fan first and foremost, and boxing means more to me than any 1 fighter, so I am as objective as possible). Joe is an amazing talent, and is rightfully recognized as such by The Ring and most un-biased fans.
