With the imminent departure of Calzaghe to bigger and better things, who do you think is going to dominate this division? Personally I think Kessler should do a number on most, however I also think Carl Froch might be in with a shout. I also think Lacy is still good enough to do something, if he can get some confidence back. Not sure who else, any ideas?
Kessler by a mile, the man is a fantastic boxer, and f*ck froch that bum wouldn't stand a chance against Kessler or Calzaghe
Well, Kessler is definitely the best of the rest...we will see how good Carl Froch is when he takes on Inkin...Lacy is finished in my opinion...I cannot see him beating any of the top 4 guys anymore...not even on a good day... So we have: 1. Joe Calzaghe 2. Mikkel Kessler ======= ======= 3-4 Lucian Bute/Anthony Mundine --------- 5. is probably Froch - if he beats Inkin he will be at least 5th...on the other hand, he could be further down, just inside or just outside the Top 10, depending on the way he loses to Inkin...
Kessler is the man now, easily. Infact, without Calzaghe in the division, he is in a league of his own.
Not sure why you say Froch is a bum, that's just not true. Granted he may not be as good Kessler but I'd still put him in the top 5 Super MW's. Kessler is pretty special, I'd like to see him step into a few big fights just to how good he is. Lets face it if weren't for Calzaghe superb chin he could have sparked Joe a couple of times. Thinking back that was a bloody good fight. Shame he's not box office enough to get in with Wright, Pavlik et al.
Kessler is the man. Froch could figure, but does more talking than fighting. As for Lacy, he needs to call it a day and go out on a win.
Froch is not a bum by any means. However, he thinks he is the very best out there. In this context, it is easy to be hard on him. He has serious defensive flaws, for example. His style also shows little respect for the opposition. This might prove his undoing one day, against a fighter with good boxing skills who doesn't fear Froch's heavy punch. Calzaghe has a very good chin. But even if he didn't, Froch would not get to test it. Calzaghe's defense is very good and Froch doesn't have good enough footwork or speed to take advantage. A Calzaghe with an average chin would still probably TKO Froch, in my view.
Kessler is the class of the division. Unless one of the young speedsters (Ward, et al) grows up and improves drastically, I don't see that changing anytime soon. The only question I have about Mikkel is punch resistance. I know there's no real proof to suggest that he'll have problems, but the way he reacted to some of Calzaghe's shots -- and Joe no longer is a puncher -- makes me worry a bit.
Paulie are you on smack?! Bute may be undefeated but he has no way been in the ring with the class of Kessler!:smoke
