What can the Brits tell me about this mysterious Mancunian?

He handed Mikkel Kessler one of the Dane's very few amateur defeats (by a score of 17-14) and went on to start building up a pro record in a stop-and-go fashion (three fights in four months, then a more than two year layoff, and then back to business with six fights in a year) before getting stopped in a game effort against a young rising Carl Froch.

After that, he fought once more back in 2004 at the age of 28 and disappeared altogether.

He does look to have had some talent but against Froch was overwhelmed:

A bit of a **** stoppage, but maybe not by British standards. :yep Anyhow...

Why did he remain an amateur so long? (turning pro at 24)

Why the twenty-five month layoff after his first three wins?

Why did he retire after only one comeback win?

He had talent, squandered with inactivity and poor management i guess, he probably wasnt 100% commited to the pro game.

i have been trying to get some answers as to what happened to him as well. i boxed alan in the amateurs . he outboxed me easily . think he stayed in the amateurs for a while as he was boxing alot for england and doing well but had a very good british amateur in front of him chris bessey england captain he thought bessey in aba semis and lost 9-8 very close fight so bessey got selsected for the big events commonwealth ect
very good boxer though fast hands good combinations and great balance not a big puncher though otherwise could of gone all the way i think

His manager Steve Wood has just appeared on boxing life stories.

He says that Alan Page was one of the most talented fighters who didn’t make it. I think they fell out over him taking the Froch fight at short notice. Steve didn’t want him to take the fight and to build towards British and European level, because the fight would be worth more down the road.

But Alan decided to take it because he had just done a 6-7 week camp for another fight that the opponent pulled out of. Alan decided to take it for the money at short notice.

He only had one more fight after that loss so the loss and falling out with Steve over it, seems to be reason that cost him his career.
