Every week I will choose one of the match-ups in the super six tournement and will try and analyse it and then we can discuss, first up its probably one of the best match ups of the tourney and definitely the best and most intriguing of the first stage; Kessler vs Ward. Kessler is technically very good, a textbook style, very good jab, cuts off the ring well but doesn't really have the fluidness to be effect against certain slicker fighters, he's maybe slightly robotic and doesn't have the adaptability and will suffer from that as he will need a plan B. Ward has a superior footwork and more natural fluid ability, he appears to be the better tactician and strategist, he is slightly more athletic and maybe has the faster hands as well although this might be even as Kessler has deceptively fast hands. Ward is more crafty and has more facets to his game but might not have the power or volume to back him up. I think Kessler will struggle with Wards ability to switch hit effectively, he circles well and comes from angles which might nutralize Kessler's very good jab which he struggles to establish against southpaws. Both guys are very disciplined in sticking to a game plan and very well conditioned, Ward will be pot shoting all night and with Kesslers inability to adjust against this style and somewhat one trick plan A, this fight might change from round 9 through 12 in Wards favour. btw I've got one of these guys vs AA in the Final. :good
i ll have a look of Ward as i havent seen him fight, i have his fight with Miranda i think. I havent saw enough of Kessler but i got a DVD of him so ill wathc that tommorow and post later good thread though will be interesting
I'll have a look at more of ward and get back to you on this....i do feel this is the most interesting tactically out of all 3 opening bouts.
i was listening to Dirrel on a radio show you aint allowed to speak about on here and he thinks him and Kessler will be a good tactical fight aswell as Dirrel and Ward
GP, thats a good fight to watch Ward displayed his full repetoire (ok it was miranda) but it was a masterpiece, he's been brought up well both in his matchmaking/development and tutoring he behaves like a fighter and does the basics really well, it was a pleasure to watch such a young fighter have such maturity and boxing IQ so early, Miranda looked like he saw an alien when ward turned southpaw.
Wards corner was very good during the Miranda fight. It was a schooling and a great team performance.
I think the winner of this is potentially the winner of the tournament. Ward looks the most complete fighter in the tournament, only really lacking big power.
i've seen little of dirrell, but i think ward, kessler and abraham will beat him from what i've seen he looks like a poor mans RJJ, froch vs Dirrell will be interesting, i'll do that next. they've done really well in the first round match-ups, everyone seems to have a tough style for them straight up, theres no bankers :good
i've got either Ward vs AA or Kessler in the Final people used to go on about Wards poor whiskers early in his career can anyone elaburate?
tahnks for teh info S&C and Mandanda ill wathc some more of them tommorow like i said and come back on.
amazing stat for you lads Ward hasn't lost a fight since he was 13 years old and only lost 4 fights in his whole boxing career. He's bred for this sport
was it a bad KD? i remember him being buzzed in other fights both him and kessler are having tune-ups, kessler badly needs it with his inactivety, i hope they don't get injured or somehow mess up (this is boxing and worser things have happened) i've never been a fan of "stay busy" fights, this is one sport you need to be fully motivated and switched on, something happens to some fighters when they're in that "tune up" mood, however good they are.
