Agreed i really like King Arthur. Again a facinating fight we have Taylor a man who gasses late on against a man that paces himself with ice cool precision. I agree though how we he fair against slick fast bigger guys....we just have to wait and see...roll on October :bbb
Cheers :good I like the way showtime have gone about this the promo is great and the whole package looks exciting and fresh.
AA was my initial pick and now he's more of a teaser, he maybe too small for these guys, although its unreal how tough the guy is and arguebly he's the most technical behind that shell he does everything well for that style to work (working behind a very good jab, countering well, knowing when to increase the output and power) having said that there's a fine line with his style he needs to be on his game every fight even someone like winky who makes it work so well wouldn't be able to carry it off against the wrong style for him, Abraham could be outworked, Dirrell i feel is the wickest link in the tournament but is fighting a guy who fights with his face so who knows? Ward has become the darling but is he ready? Kessler can't adapt and taylor is damaged goods with the worst ring IQ in the tournament. All makes for a very even, intriguing and entertaining tourney, i predict fireworks :happy
Mandanda, Vitali vs Cris Nipple who you got? What say we have a sweepstake on the Brit forum as to what weight Arreola will come in seriously for me thats the 64,000 pound (pun intended) question, What weight will Big Cris come in at? He's been getting too relaxed in his last several fights because he knew he had a small ring to deal with. But I bet anything that Vitali has negotiated a large ring in the contract so Arreola better get serious and use 250 lbs as the benchmark. Anything noticeably under 250 like 40 to 42 would be a good thing. But something tells me the stress and big stage will have Cris at 60ish. I hope i'm wrong but fighters with his mentality ain't going anywhere, I can't help to think about the dichotomy between the Buster douglas that beat Iron Mike and the Buster Douglas that laid an egg against Holyfield in his first defence. Clearly this was an "all eyes on me" moment and Buster Douglas showed how he dealt with fame and pressure by having a pilsbury dough boy mentality and waist line. Arreola needs that fitness guru Mackie Shilstone or at least a come to jesus conversation with Bernard Hopkins. really i can't see how arreola has a chance in this fight, might be a replay of the beatdown our very own Danny Williams endured, I'll be rooting for Chris Nipple though
That's a good call i think a sweepstake on his weight would be a lively debate and good fun :good I'm kinda looking forward to this one. He's a lazy trainer and seems unmotivated even before he's achieved anything of note which isn't a great sign. He was actually getting beat up by Walker till he went gun ho and took Walker into a war....Walker wilted pretty quickly. Against Vitali he must impose his will early on. If he does he has to take Vitali into later rounds and maintain a high workrate and be smart and take the odd breather but he basically needs to find a rhythm and yes it won't be pretty but it's all he can do to gain a 'W'. It might be one of them nights again where a U.S fighter is standing at long range getting hit with jab's uppercuts hooks and right hands and then he will fold at the midway point bludgeoned to defeat....something i don't want to see i want Chris to win this. Great shout Mackie Shilstone is a legend....the man is fantastic...he also plots the mental side of a fight and is intense and i feel Arreola needs to be intense he can't outbox Vitali he needs to go in there and take him into the tranches and bring war. I hope he looks at Sam Peter's mistakes and uses the wrongs of his performance to implement his game plan...if he has one
in saying all that it don't mean a thing unless he's trained like a professional fighter should. I hope he can do it but atm i don't see it although i do see a more entertaining heavyweight fight then we've seen in a while.
well, he could and he's definitely one of the favourites, but he's gonna have to show a lot of things he hasn't shown so far to win it as confidently as you sound
watched Kessler vs Thypsse and JC Green today will watch Ward vs Miranda tonigth and possibly Calzaghe vs Kessler From wathcing Kessler this is what i see: Hes a solid all rounder, dosent do much wrong and does nothing spectacular. Perhaps his speed is his only let down. Hes methodical, controlled and patient and picks his shots well and is very accurate, a thinking fighter He lacks true world class power but makes up for it in accurate placed shots and good combinations is comfortable on the front and back foot (which is quite rare) and is just as calm , controlled and precise on either.
if Taylor, Ward and Dirrel all loose in the first round it will be a disaster for the tournement. I could see it falling apart.
^ why because they're American? wasn't one of the great things about this tournament and which made it different, that it's not a straight elimination, its the main reason all the fighters signed up because it gives them a guarentee and a chance to comeback, the chance to forget a defeat put it behind them and even go on to win the whole thing and one loss won't mean they'll be discarded and written off. There's so many different styles therefore being competitive and giving everyone a chance and there's no one above the rest to dominate, i don't see how you come to the conclusion that if those 3 lose their first the whole thing will "fall apart" of all the other things that could hamper it that's the least of them.
They won't all lose anyway. All the Americans are in fights they can win. Ward has the speed and variety to cause Kessler problems. Dirrell is talented enough to give the porous Froch plenty to think about. Taylor is in the fight that is his best chance stylistically. Abraham isn't going to wear him down like Pavlik and Froch did, its a case of avoiding the big bombs and working consistently.
I think Ward gets the UD. Not been impressed with Kessler he has a limited European style and Ward is the better pure boxer. I see him winning 8-4.
As of now, Ward for me, from watching him, I think he'll explode on the big stage. 1.Ward 2.Kessler 3.Abraham 4.Dirrell 5.Froch 6.Taylor But now i'm thinking it could go 1.Kessler 2.Froch 3.Taylor 4.Ward 5.Dirrell 6.Abraham But yet again, it could easily be 1.Abraham 2.Froch 3.Dirrell 4.Ward 5.Taylor 6.Kessler Or even possibly 1.Dirrell 2.Taylor 3.Ward 4.Froch 5.Kessler 6.Ward And I wouldnt be at all surprised if it was 1.Taylor 2.Kessler 3.Abraham 4.Ward 5.Taylor 6.Dirrell or even.......... **** it, i'm getting a sore head, ****, this is quite possibly the greatest thing to happen in boxing for years, I don't care what anyone says, there are so many intangibles and opportunities to learn and progress in this that anyone of them could shine through and win. Like hell will I be putting money on it. Kessler could get bamboozled by Ward in the first and lose his mojo thereafter, or he could break Andres heart and go on to win it. The smart money on everyones lips is Kessler, thats a dangerous thing for him. I wouldnt be surprised if any of these guys lost, and you know what, I wouldn't lose respect for them either if they did. There is absolutely no way the welterweights would agree to this. These boys deserve all the praise lavished on them. (I've got a feeling Taylor will get revenge on Froch though)
