Super Six: Kessler vs Ward

168 was never dead IMO. The division has had high quality since Calzaghe left, there are loads of good fighters plus a few worthy contenders that aren't even in the tournament. Plus there was always the potential for Pavlik/AA to move up so I saw that coming.

What we needed is to see them all fighting each, but this tournament is certainly ambitious and unexpectedly aggressive matchmaking.

 

It would of been nice to see Bute because he's the other world champion in the division but in saying that i think Dirrell will provide great entertaining fights and i don't think Bute will be missed.

What i'm wondering is do you lads think there's any fighter in this tournament that could lose all 3 fights?? this competition is the definition of make or break....one guys career could be in tatters after this..the reason i ask this is these fight's aren't no joke they will be wars and fights that take alot of you as a fighter and losing a fight can break a fighter and i will be fascinated to see how the first round beaten fighters come back.

Very surprising to hear Kessler being slated as much as he has....

I too am intrigued to see how he gets on and agree that anything could happen but it seems like im the only person who was actually impressed with his showing in the Calzaghe fight.

Maybe a re-watch is in order

 

This tournament is intriguing, but more intriguing is the amount of people going for Abraham, Kessler and Ward over Froch ..... Nobody is talking about Froch winning this when he is clearly for me the front runner .... Granted Ward looks a bit tasty, but Dirrell is out of his depth, Abraham hasnt fought anybody with any kind of boxing ability and Kessler has had in effect, 2 years of no competition ..

I fancy Ward beating Kessler,
I fancy Taylor beating Abraham, only if Jermain goes out firing from the first bell, if it goes past 9 Taylor will gas. Jermain needs to adopt a Tommy Hearns mentality in this one, 'Get him out of there in 3 rounds, hit him with an all out assault'

I can see Froch beating all of these guys, none of these guys are Sugar Ray Leonard, Froch may have a slack defence but he's also got an unorthodox, tricky style that fighters cannot truly prepare for ....

Its Froch or Ward for me ..... But if Taylor could find that 'Killer - Hearns' mentality, he could be the dangerous floater in the group .. Taylor will be ultra dangerous if he adopts a '4 rounder' attitude, he needs to forget about going 12 and fight as if it was a 4 round fight, thats Taylors only chance and if he adopts it, he could knock out everyone ..

 

Taylor ain't knocking out Abraham, no chance in hell. Taylor has not knocked out a single live body. Not one. I don't think he has any kind of knockout power, and he's a poor finisher to go with it. Abraham fought through a broken jaw, his resistance is unquestionable, and he keeps a tight guard.

I give him a shot at winning a decision though. Yeah Taylor's gassed against Pavlik and Froch, but Abraham does not set a high pace. If Taylor is in control and gasses against Abraham he should leave the tournament immediately.

Yeah, but then again the whole boxing world WILL be watching this. It's a huge thing in boxing so I doubt they'll get away with any funny business. I'd like to think Taylor gets a fair crack. Besides, he's perfectly capable of completely outworking Abraham and giving himself a real chance on the cards.

 

Yeah,I see your way of thinking. Ward is a slickster with decent defence but I just think Kessler with his robust style can break him down late on,time will tell,fascinsating fight,as are the others.Hopefully Kesslers inactivity doesn't damage his chances.

Here's hoping this fight actually happens so all our thoughts and questions get answered
