What happens in the points table should two (or more) fighters end up with the same number of points after the three group stages? I see Taylor losing to both Andre Ward and Mikkel Kessler and thus finishing with zero points and last position. I can see Kessler and Abraham being near certainties for the semi-finals and winning all their fights. That just leaves two remaining semi-final slots between three fighters - Froch, Dirrell and Ward. I do not see Froch winning another fight with Kessler and Abraham coming up so his final points tally will remain at two. I can see Ward beating Taylor but losing to Kessler. So, if Dirrell beats Ward and loses to Abraham, it means that all three fighters will be on two points (provided no-one wins their fight by KO). How will they be seperated? :huh Looking at the match-ups below, I can envisage the above scenario happening: GROUP STAGE 1 MIKKEL KESSLER v ANDRE WARD - Kessler win GROUP STAGE 2 ANDRE DIRRELL vs. ARTHUR ABRAHAM - Abraham win MIKKEL KESSLER vs. CARL FROCH - Kessler win JERMAIN TAYLOR vs. ANDRE WARD - Ward win GROUP STAGE 3 ANDRE DIRRELL vs. ANDRE WARD - ? CARL FROCH vs. ARTHUR ABRAHAM - Abraham win MIKKEL KESSLER vs. JERMAIN TAYLOR - Kessler win
I'd say Froch (as no. 3) and Dirrell would advance to the semis. Froch beat Dirrell head to head and never fought Ward, and Dirrell beat Ward but lost to Froch. Just my two cents...
Wow, it looks like Froch may have already done enough to sneak into the semis based on his one win even if he gets smoked by AA and Kessler in his next fights.
