Who cares about the super six when the best two super middleweights are fighting on April 17th on HBO. :tong
thats a big worry i wouldn't read to much into this im sure the fact hbo is counter programing them has a lot do this
Its the sport of boxing not the tourney it self. This isn't some poker tournament You want to have every fight 3 months apart, what if a boxer gets a complete beat down, " Hey to bad get ready in 3 months" C'mon thats ridiculous, nobody is going to lose interest.
Personally i don't mind waiting, Ward got injured, it happens. So far I've enjoyed the Super Six and don't see it as a train wreck at all.
I hope the tournament dosent lose steam- its so good for the game. Just the logistic challenge of getting 6 guys to fight regularly- and get their rest, despite injury, etc, and locations , etc- its all very hard to put together. i mean- it ll be around 2012- before we see the final of this freaking thing. round 1 isnt even finished yet- and its been a year.
That is what happens in a heavily structured tournament, this shouldn't have been the Super Six it should have been the Super Middleweight Championship Series, The top 4 fighters in the division square off with the Champions(Kessler and Froch at the time) having the one and two seeds.
I'm sorta losing sight of the fact that this is a tournament. With all these delays and the long time between fights, the sense of continuity is lost. Actually I didn't like the fact the JT left. He should not have been included if there was doubt as to whether he would last it out. I also think it should have simply been a single elimination scheme with fights at 3 month intervals.
How can anyone complain? If it was not for this tournament these guys would never be facing off and we would even have bigger delays in watching meaningless fights. Now we are guaranteed the 'best' are gonna face each other. Delays are frustrating, but overall we are still getting the fights we want to see. Look at the positive side!
That's the way I see it, too. We had to know that there could possibly be delays due to injury. It happens often in boxing. At least we are getting good matchups out of this. I still can't believe they were able to get it pulled together in the first place.
It's just Showtime, and they are only fighting for the right to face the Pavlik/Bute winner on HBO, so a little extra time won't hurt anything.
