The semi-finals of the Super Six tournament will begin to shape up after the first Group Stage 3 match between Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green, and Kessler holds the key. If Kessler wins, he advances to the semi-final. A Kessler win, would also mean Andre Dirrell could not advance with a loss against Andre Ward later that night, regardless of the outcome of the Arthur Abraham-Carl Froch matchup the following week.

On the other hand, Dirrell does control his own destiny. If he beats Ward, both he and Ward would advance regardless of any other results. It’s possible that both Abraham and Froch will have already have qualified for the semi-final depending on the previous week’s results. In any event, the winner is sure to advance regardless of what happens in other fights.

Green could overturn the applecart with an upset win over Kessler, however having inherited Jermain Taylor’s loss Abraham coupled with his one-sided defeat against Andre Ward, he almost certainly needs a 3-point KO win over Kessler, combined with a loss by Direll against Ward or a loss by Froch against Abraham.

There are also other possibilities that could unfold.

The nightmare scenario would be if Green wins a decision against Kessler and Ward and Abraham also triumph. That would leave Green, Kessler, Dirrell and Froch all tied with two points. Two would advance using a system based on total scorecard points.
Following Group Stages 1 and 2, only WBA world super middleweight champion Andre Ward has locked up one of the four coveted Semi-Final berths while no other fighter has been eliminated from contention. With the five other competitors still alive—separated by three points or less—Group Stage 3 promises to deliver the most dramatic and compelling fights of the groundbreaking tournament.

    COMPLETE TIE BREAK INFORMATION

If two boxers are tied in points after the Group Stage bouts, the seeding will be determined as follows:
Head-To-Head: If the tied boxers had fought each other, the winner of that bout will be seeded above the other.
Knockouts: If the two had NOT fought head-to-head or if they fought to a draw, the boxer with the most tournament KOs/TKOs will be seeded above the other.

Scorecards*: If they remain tied after the KO/TKO test, then the seeding is determined by the total scorecard points earned by the fighters from each of their Group Stage bouts. The boxer with more scorecard points will be seeded above the other.

If more than two boxers are tied in points after the Group Stage bouts, the seeding will be determined as follows:
Knockouts: The boxer with the most tournament KOs/TKOs will be seeded above the tied competitors.
Scorecards*: If two or more boxers remain tied after the KO/TKO test, then the seeding is determined by the total scorecard points earned by the fighters from each of their Group Stage bouts. The boxers will be seeded from highest total scorecard points to the lowest.

    * Those boxers who win prior to the final bell (via KO/TKO/DQ/Tech Decision, etc.) earn 10 points for each incomplete round. Those who lose earn 8 points in a KO/TKO round and 9 points for each subsiquent round.

** Allan Green inherited Jermain Taylor’s scorecard points from Abraham vs. Taylor.

Total Scorecard Points (through Group Stage 2)
    Ward……………….713
    Dirrell………………690
    Kessler…………….679
    Froch………………679
    Abraham………….677
    Green………………658

    GROUP STAGE 3 BREAKDOWN

The Super Six World Boxing Classic continues on Saturday, Sept. 25, when SHOWTIME® presents a world championship doubleheader to kick off Group Stage 3—the final Group Stage of the round-robin portion of the tournament. First, Mikkel Kessler will look to lock up a spot in the Semi Finals when he faces Allan Green. Kessler is making the first defense of his second world title, the WBC 168-pound strap he wrested from Carl Froch last April. Green desperately needs a win to have a shot at the Semi Finals. Following his loss to Andre Ward, Green may need a knockout and/or help from his fellow competitors to earn one of the four spots.

Immediately following, live on SHOWTIME, Ward will face 2004 U.S. Olympic teammate and friend Andre Dirrell in a highly anticipated matchup between the talented, breakout American stars. Although Ward has already locked up his Semi-Final berth as the only contestant to win both initial Group Stage matches, he promises a fierce defense of his WBA world championship belt and undefeated professional record. Dirrell, conversely, needs a win to guarantee his place in the Semis. Conceivably, Dirrell could get in with two points but he would need help from Green and/or Arthur Abraham.

On Saturday, Oct. 2, from the city/state Principality of Monaco, Arthur Abraham and Froch will meet at the Chapiteau de l’Espace for their pivotal Group Stage 3 matchup, the last of the Group Stage bouts. Following Abraham vs. Froch, the four fighters with the highest point totals on the Super Six World Boxing Classic scoreboard will advance to the Semi Finals, tentatively slated for the first quarter 2011.

Abraham is currently in second place with three points by virtue of his knockout victory over Jermain Taylor in Group Stage 1. But in Group Stage 2, Abraham was outboxed by Dirrell and ultimately disqualified for the first professional loss of his career. Froch remains tied with Kessler and Dirrell at two points.

Face up to it mate, its ****ing boring. The fights are taking too long to happen, if boxing is going to make a tournament the fighters need to fight each other closer together. And don't give me that bull****, that they can't fight each other..they need time to rest. 2 Months should of been the time between the fights, fighters these days are such Primadonnas. It would of been more epic, if all the fights where 2 months apart.........but then you will get the moaning *******s talking about the safety of the fighters. Sugar Ray Robinson, Jake Lamotta, Henry Armstrong...........used to have dozens of fights in the space of afew months.

What's change now since then..? if the supersixx was meant to be a tournament, then the fights needed to be close together.

Do riders in the tour de france, take 5 year rests in-between stages of the tour de france..? No

    I'm sick of this bull****.

Boxing and boxers needed to take a risk to make this work, but they didn't. No one gives a ****ing ****, look at how many replied to this topic. Its nowhere over the media in the UK, because no one gives a ****.

I'm probably the best thing that is going to happen to this topic, you will probably get afew more replys now that i have enter this topic, it true ****ing style.

I'm not even assed about the competition.

I care more about who David Haye, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pac are fighting.

And so does the rest of the boxing world, and general public.

So potentially Allan Green could win the WBC title and be eliminated from the tournament with the belt!!!

He does make a valid point there. It's ****ing gay how top fighters supposedly need 6 months. What the hell is wrong with them...

2 months is unrealistic these days (for right or for wrong) but I think ~4 month gaps for 3 fights a year isn't too much to ask.

I largely agree with most of this. Its good to see others speaking out about it.

    Certainly, its terrible for boxing.

reduce the amount of money they get so they need to fight more - which will also reduce the cost or requirement to have PPVs, and mean terrestrial stations can afford to buy rights.
    Simples.

the money they get from showtime does not affect the international rights.

Honestly this is one of the worst posts i have ever read. anyone that says the fights are taking to long is full of ****.

All 5 of the original competitors have had 3 fights within a year which is above average for a 12 round world level fighter. name me a big name that has had more than 3 fights in a year in the last decade?

Do you honestly think Arthur Abraham would of faced Taylor, Dirrell and Froch within a 1 year period if it wasn't for the Super 6? Do you think Froch would of faced Dirrell, Kessler and Abraham. Would Dirrell have stepped up to fight Froch, Abraham and Ward within the space of a year. Do me a favour.
