Some divisions already have undisputed champs and fights scheduled that will determine who’s best. Most fans will consider the winner of the Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams fight to be the best 160 pounder in the world. However, who will the winner defend his middleweight title against? Who’s out there at 160 pounds? How about a tournament to find the most worthy middleweight title challenger? It could involve an international field consisting of Mora, Germany’s Felix Sturm, Australia’s Anthony Mundine and Britain’s Mathew Macklin. Aside from Mora, those middleweights are unknown to American audiences but they have personalities and fighting styles that would quickly attract attention. What about middleweight standout Daniel Jacobs? He’s just a kid. So how about a tournament to determine the world’s top 160-pound prospect? It could include Brooklyn’s Jacobs, Ireland’s Andy Lee, Scotland’s Craig McEwan and France’s Cameroonian sensation Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (check out what is either his imitation of Naseem Hamed’s walk-in or his version of “Hammer Time” in this YouTube clip [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4whhcpBEn8[/ame]. While you‘re at it, take a look at his obvious talent as he outboxes Gennady Martirosyan, a poor-man‘s Arthur Abraham.).

How about a tournament to find the world’s best welterweight up-and-comer? I would include America’s Antwone Smith and Mike Jones, Mexico’s teenage terror Saul Alvarez and hard-nosed fringe contender Jesus Soto Karass, Germany’s Selcuk Aydin (the Turkish ‘Tyson’), and Britain’s Kell “the Kid” Brook. Who’s the best junior middleweight prospect? A six-man tournament involving Alfredo Angulo, Deandre Latimore, Vanes Martirosyan, Erislandy Lara, Joe Greene and Austin Trout would determine that. The winner of that one could fight James Kirkland when he gets out of jail. (Now that I think of it, that doesn’t sound like much of a reward, but I doubt Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. would agree to face the winner.)

How about a tournament to crown the best young American heavyweight? Yeah, I know that would sort of be like crowning the fastest Japanese sprinter, but so what? I think American fans want to know and would watch it. My four-man field consists of Chris Arreola, Eddie Chambers, Kevin Johnson and Malik Scott. (I know I could easily expand this to a six- or eight-man tournament by including Chazz Witherspoon, Derrick Rossy, Devin Vargas and Travis Walker, but U.S. heavyweights are already so mediocre. If you’ve lost to a fellow American, you’re automatically eliminated in my book.) If Arreola falls short, there’s always a consolation tournament for the best Mexican-American heavyweight. I know I’m getting kind of silly, but don’t laugh, a tournament with Arreola, Manuel Quezada, David Rodriguez and Javier Mora would probably do solid ticket sales at L.A.‘s Staples Center and more than a few arenas in Texas.

Maybe the winner of that one would get to fight Fernando Vargas. OK, now I’m just being mean. Perhaps ‘Commando Nando’ could co-promote the event and host a pie eating contest with the participants following the weigh-in.

Hey, the idea is to have fun.

There’s no doubt in my mind that fans will have fun with the Super Six tournament. Let’s hope the idea catches on.

Seriously wish they could make more of these tournaments. I'd enhance it to make it more of a super 12 rather then a super 6. would be awesome.

Ward did drop 3 rounds to Miranda though, much to my dismay.

ARTHUR ABRAHAM AND JERMAIN TAYLOR QUOTES

    This content is protected

“I want to make the really big fight in America. I want to win the title and have a big fight like Sugar Ray Leonard, Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in the States because I love America and it’s my goal to make a big fight like in Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York. This Super Six Tournament will only help me get that big fight in America.

The thing I know about Taylor is that he’s beaten Hopkins. I know he’s a good boxer. There’s nothing really else I can say about him. I don’t really think I should praise him anymore here. So we’ll just see what happens on Oct. 17.

In the past my biggest fight was to make weight but not anymore. I’m just so happy when I go work out that I don’t have worry about that. I’m a happy man being a super middleweight. I always think the fight will go the distance. I’m never thinking the knock out. I’m just thinking about going the distance.

“I feel like I’m going to win the fight. I’ve done everything there is to do in boxing. I’m not ready to go yet. I feel like there is more to accomplish. I feel like I’m the bigger fighter. I’m a lot stronger. As long as I don’t get tired I’m going to win the fight. I don’t have a prediction on how long the fight will go. I don’t care how I do it. I just want to win.

I know Arthur is a big hitter. I know what I’m going to do and I know what needs to be done on Oct. 17. I don’t worry about the crowd. The crowd doesn’t get in the ring. It’s just me and the other guy. If you hit the guy the crowd goes, ‘Ooh and ahh’ but it never gets to the point where it matters in the fight.

“I’ve fought the best of the best in boxing. I’ve won some and lost some. I just want to win this tournament. There ain’t nothing else to it. It’s not about the money or anything but that I want to win. I plan to just leave it all in there. That’s all I got. That’s my state of mind right now. No excuses. Just go in there and fight. The only reason I lost to Carl Froch was because I got tired. I wasn’t prepared. The best fighter lost because he didn’t train right.”

    (what a stupid name)

SHOWTIME Sports, in conjunction with NFL Films, is producing a new reality series that will give fight fans unprecedented access into the lives of the participants in the Super Six World Boxing Classic. Dubbed FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic, the series will focus a powerful spotlight on the groundbreaking tournament from the kickoff press conference in July 2009 through the Final tournament bout slated for 2011.

    The series premieres on Saturday, Oct. 10 on SHOWTIME® (10:30 p.m. ET/PT).

The tournament format, created by SHOWTIME Sports in association with five world-class boxing promoters, is a unique concept to boxing and one that has been lauded by industry experts and the sports media since its announcement. Likewise, FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic is unlike any other reality program in boxing.

There will be six episodes following the fighters not just in training camp, but during the intense moments leading up to their respective fights, in their corners during each bout and in the aftermath of every win, loss, or draw as the fighters recede from the limelight and begin to prepare for their next bout.

"The round-robin nature of this tournament lends itself to a story arc and fight progression that has never before been seen in boxing," said SHOWTIME Sports General Manager Ken Hershman. "This series will set itself apart by chronicling each man through that progression. No one knows where each story will lead, but our cameras will be there every step of the way."

"Add in NFL Films breadth of experience and its trademark storytelling ability, and this series becomes exponentially more unique and compelling." said Hershman.

The debut episode of FIGHT CAMP 360°: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic will also take viewers behind the intrigue and the politics to reveal how the unprecedented boxing tournament came together.

The series is voice by Bill St. James with music by NFL Films award-winning composure David Robidoux.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, the Super Six World Boxing Classic kicks off with Group Stage 1 bouts between Arthur Abraham vs. Jermain Taylor and Carl Froch vs. Andre Dirrell (SHOWTIME, 8 p.m. ET/PT). Group Stage 1 continues on Saturday, Nov. 21 with Mikkel Kessler vs. Andre Ward.

Here are my predictions for the fights. I'm probably wasting my time. I suck at predictions anyway. But here they are:

    Kessler-Ward: Kessler by (T)KO (3 points)

    Round 2:

Abraham-Dirrell: Abraham by Decision (2 points)
Taylor-Ward: Taylor by Decision (2 points)

    Round 3:
    Kessler-Taylor: Kessler by (T)KO (3 points)
    Froch-Abraham: Froch by (T)KO (3 points)
    Ward-Dirrell: Ward by (T)KO (3 points)

    Ranking after 3 rounds:
    Kessler: 8 points
    Froch: 6 points
    Taylor: 4 points
    Ward: 3 points
    Abraham: 2 points
    Dirrell: 0 points

    Semi-Finals:

CARL FROCH & ANDRE DIRRELL QUOTES

    This content is protected

Carl “The Cobra” Froch says he’s primed and ready to hand unbeaten American star Andre Dirrell his first ever defeat when they meet in Group Stage 1 of the Super Six World Boxing Classic on October 17th. Froch’s WBC World Super Middleweight title will be up for grabs when the two men clash at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham with new satellite channel Primetime set to broadcast the event live on pay per view in the UK and Ireland as part of a Super Six tournament double header from Nottingham and Berlin.

While Froch will be looking to ruin Dirrell’s perfect record in his native Nottingham Arthur Abraham will also be on home soil in Berlin as he opens his Super Six tournament campaign in a clash of former World Middleweight Champions with American Jermain Taylor.

It all adds up to a knockout night for fight fans and Froch is promising to live up to his growing reputation as one of the sports most exciting fighters. “I’ve proven I can get in the trenches and emerge on top,” said Froch. “He hasn’t been in that deep yet so let’s see what happens when he finds himself in that kind of fight..”

Like Dirrell the 32-year-old Champion also boasts a perfect record having won all 25 of his pro fights with 20 of those wins coming inside the distance and he’s predicting another short night. “I believe I’ll knock him out, the sooner the better as far as I’m concerned. I’ve studied him and I think he has a number of flaws that I can exploit. My record proves I can punch and I just need one opportunity to finish a fight be it in the first round or the last round.”

Undefeated No. 1 super middleweight contender and American Dream “The Matrix” ANDRE DIRRELL is finishing up his most grueling and productive training camp ever as he prepares for his first world title fight, challenging World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch in a battle of undefeated warriors. Dirrell breaks camp for Mother England on Saturday.

“I’ve spent my whole life dreaming of this night when I fight for the world title,” said Dirrell. “Froch has been foaming at the mouth saying how hopeless my chances are against him. Frankly I find his rants tiresome. No wonder Joe Calzaghe didn’t give him a shot. He’s a gasbag. He may have fought southpaws and orthodox style fighters, but he has NEVER fought a switch-hitter like me. I’m going to go Mickey Mantle on him and shoot the works from the moment the bell rings. Mr. Froch can kiss my Yankee Doodle..”

Dirrell’s promoter, Gary Shaw, stated similar sentiments. “Andre is considered the dark horse of this tournament and that’s just fine with us,” said Shaw. “No one gave him a chance against Victor Oganov (28-1, 28 KOs), or Anthony Hanshaw (21-1-1, 14 KOs), and he had an early night with both of them, knocking them out in the sixth and fifth rounds, respectively. I have no doubt Andre will be the new WBC super middleweight champion on October 17 and I have no doubt Andre will be in the finals of this illustrious tournament.

I would disagree. Ward and Dirrell are very unproven, and their are several better fighters at 168 than these two, who have not been invited.

Also, Taylor's record at SMW is a very poor 1-2, and Abraham hasn't even tested the waters there yet.
