I love the idea of fta boxing but we just don't have the talent pool to cater for great cards.

I think there is enough good local match ups out there. I think alot of fighters worry to much about their records and don't want to step it up

Agree with most of that Chop.

As we all know, boxing is about match-ups, and past records go out the window when two evenly matched blokes go at it. You don't need Vic or Kats (though it would be great) to get entertaining action.

The celebrity thing, yeah do that too. The venue has to be enticing to get the clebs though. The last venue was tiny and the set-up looked 2nd class. To get Crowe, Steve Waugh, actresses in Hollywood tape etc along the venue has to look classy.

Not sure we'll ever get our biggest names (of which we have few) appear. Certainly not in those guys bigger fights. You might get their career padding fights on Superboxer, but they'll be looking for the bigger $$$ available on PPV for their bigber fights IMO.

Perhaps no full-on wars Raff, but Vea vs McCracken was certainly a brutal affair, and it wasn't lack of courage that eventually stopped McCracken. 'Tiger' Bell's win was also a blood & guts affair won more on heart and persistance than anything else.

Yeah - we don't need the biggest guys and can't expect them to fight fta but so long as the ones we DO get are evenly matched it will make it that much more interesting...

Then again, if we're trying to pick up more steam from the casual fans, maybe uneven matches with KO's are what will draw them in?????

    Dont know about this chop.

Short fights ending in knockouts only re inforce the idea that boxing is unforgiving and brutal in the genral public and will only spark enough attention to draw this kind of criticism.

The best fights so far on superboxer have been the ones which have gone the distance.
Even matchups are despeartley needed to keep boxing punching on and the Superboxer production should strive to bring these to the public.

To be brutally honest that is the stupidest comment i have read this year considering:
1/ the number of boxers we have in this country
2/ where we are located geographically
3/ rating bika, meehan, geale and katsidis 2nd class when 3 of them have been world champions.

Was there any thought before you bagged our australian fighters or did you just run out of things to say.

Speaking of the guys who had Briggsy in their corner, how good did Ged O'Mahony look?

Admittedly he was far too advanced for The Preacher, but a seriously impressive debut IMO.

  13. haha i wasn't going to say anything.

    Especially Bika and Katsidis... :-(

We've got some great traits, many of which make us the envy of the rest of the world. But our seemingly endless desire to bag people at every opportunity, doesn't win us much admiration.

Heard Greg Norman talking about Aussies and tall poppy syndrome a few years ago. He said the difference between the States and here is that in the US if you are successfully people congratulate you, whereas here all they want to do is bring you down.

We've all bagged Norman from time-to-time (choker etc), but how many of us have acheived anything like he has...or Bika & Kats for that matter??
