Superfights that were either very dull or didn't live up to the hype

quartey DLH is mostly an appalling fight imo.

An inactive Quartey looking like a sluggish slow as treacle welterweight Frank Bruno and DLH equally flatfooted and totally unsure of what to do.

The ike that fought espana and Carr would have beaten Oscar very convincingly.

This was sort of funny. Interesting fight. Watched it a year ago. 10 rounds in the Bahamas on the Ali/Berbick undercard. December 1981

I recently re-watched the Ali--Spinks rematch and had forgotten how dreary the fight actually was. Horrible and the Ali camp made sure to get the ref they wanted and Leon showed up in nowhere near the same condition as he did for the first fight. It was a big big hyped fight at the superdome and the undercard fights were some nice matches, but that headline fight was horrible.

    ?????????

This was hardly built up as a superfight, was it ? Was just a rehabilitation fight for Hearns after losing to Sugar Ray.

This is kind of the way I felt about Duran-Leonard 1. Duran wobbles Leonard with a big left hand in the 2nd but other than that, just a lot of clinching, feinting, non-effective flurries, wrestling etc.

Has there been a true Superfight outside the Heavyweight Division since Duran/LeonardIII?

There have been brilliant fights, with big names in the sport, but outside the Heavyweights, I do not think even De La Hoya caught on in the worldwide mainstream like Leonard, Duran et al.

I thought De La Hoya vs. Trinidad was horrible.

Ali vs. Spinks 2 was beyond dull for the in ring action.

Actuall looking at the avatar above reminds me of Leonard-Hagler which for all the controversy was a boring fight imo. I watched it once, thought Leonard won and have had no desire to revisit it ever since.

Hopkins-Trinidad promised fireworks pre-fight and delivered a boring, one sided beat down.

Lewis-Tua was much anticipated at the time with the question marks on Lennox's chin and Tua's supposedly enormous power. And the questions remained unanswered because Tua refused to let his hands go at all for fear of Lewis hitting him with any power so instead we got a cautious Lennox just jabbing a short, fat guy with a silly haircut for 12 rounds.

Gotta disagree. It was a disappointment as Cotto was suppose to walk him over, but tables got turned. Cotto almost went down with that 4 or 5 punch combination, he was getting drilled at one time. Showed the heart of Cotto and the toughness of Clottey. Good fight IMO.
