Good to know people tuned in for what really was a talent packed card. Could very well mean more lower weight class, big ticket match ups in the near future, yes?
Rewind a couple of years and tell any of us that HBO would do those numbers with a Super Flyweight card on which Chocolatito not only didn't headline but didn't appear on. We never would've bought it.
I was going to say the base number of boxing fans with HBO has been more like 1 million for a long time, that Crawford, Golovkin, Ward, Kovalev and many others had 1 million+ ratings, which would mean many avoided this show because they don't care about the little guys, and the super fly card numbers aren't so impressive. But last year HBO seemed to lose that base of boxing viewership. Jacobs-Arias only did the same 750,000. HBO can't bank on 1 million anymore. So yeah the super fly numbers are impressive. Keep in mind too with the lower purses HBO didn't have to shell out as much for it. If HBO puts on cards like this more consistently they'll be back with the base they used to have. Without having to rely on star attractions like they used to.
Agreed. They keep the budget low like this and put good fights, they'll be back. They have really fell off a bit. Even their youtube highlights of fights is cheap now. It used to be a round by round highlight but now its like a 45 second clip.
