Lacy was shot by then too though. You need to go by pre-Calzaghe Lacy. The Calzaghe fight ruined him mentally, and the Tsypko fight ruined him physically.

Lacy arguably hasn't won a fight since Pemberton.

If Lacy was never any good how come he was so heavily hyped by American boxing experts and the media?

Lets just face the ugly truth about Lacy, Calzaghe ruined his career. Lacy could never rebound back to the elite level of boxing that he previously displayed.

  5. My dad was a Cruiserweight who sparred with Riddick Bowe and a few other top heavyweights in the early 90's... He told me that along with "King" Arthur Williams, Iran Barkley was one of the hardest punchers he got in there with.. Barkley was the only one to put my dad on his ass in sparring.

Jeff Lacy wouldn't have any chance of winning this fight.

The pre Calzaghe Lacy, wouldve beaten Barkley, by early KO.
Barkley was being beaten early in his career by nobodies and was being KOd at MW. His SMW resume is not impressive at all. Lacy KO.
The Lacy that was ruined by Calzaghe would probably still beat the SMW Barkley, in a very close fight, although I wouldnt bet on that one.

Barkley on cuts or counted out. We saw how much damage a relatively light puncher in Calzaghe did to him, imagine a big puncher who also has a high punch output. Iran's problem was often his punches were to wide. Lacy always had a leaky defence and he would get pummeled down in the last 3 rounds. Always had a tought chin but not tough enough in this match up. Plus its a bit unfair to call Barkley garbage, he was a limited fighter who won numerous world titles.

It's because at that time the SMW division was ****. Lacy was the only exciting fighter around so they tried to hype him up.

    Barkley TKO 8.

He lands big shots from the first round and has Lacy wobbling backwards from the 6/7th round until the ref steps in

I know Barkley won his share of world titles but he was blitzed in a round by N Benn (a massive puncher admittedly) His SMW success is less than Lacys (not overall), Barkley was beaten any real time he stepped up. Lacy was also a big puncher, so why does everyone think a pre Calzaghe Lacy would lose to Barkley, when before losing he was picked to beat the best SMW ever

What do you think was Lacy's most impressive performance, and why?

There were 2 that spring to mind.
I felt R Reid was a bit past his best but didnt expect Lacy to completely steam roll over him and put Reid (who always had a good chin) down and stop him. Reid looked unlucky against the established SMW champ Ottke (had he been given that fight he would have won WBC WBA & IBF titles) and had beaten undefeated B Magee a year earlier (now European champ), who I never really rated, but still a good result.
The second was Pemberton who was getting older and not top class, was a decent puncher and had shown alot of heart in 2 tough fights with Sheika, yet Lacy just blew the guy out.
I thought both those results looked good, in the fashion Lacy won
