Ward was dirty, but he got away with it and his all-round performance was highly impressive and effective, considering the opposition.

I disagree with you on Joe's prime. I think he got better with experience and peaked then.

Of those you picked I favour Jones, Calzaghe, Benn and Toney to get to the half finals. Jones and Calzaghe to reach the final. Jones would edge it but it won´t be as easy as most probably will see it.

Calzaghe was the greatest SMW of all time.... Jones was the best though... I don't see any fighters on that list beating Jones... I give the biggest chance to Benn, though I think Toney and Calzaghe would both beat Benn.

I would say Jones, Calzaghe/Toney, Benn, Bute, Ward..

I may change my mind about Ward later, but I am not sure he is on that level yet.

The closest fight to me though would be Toney/Calzaghe... I honestly don't know who I would pick there.

Personally Id replace Bute and Ward with Eubank and Reid.

    Still Id deffo see it

    Calzaghe
    Jones
    Eubank
    Benn
    Toney
    Reid

To me Eubank and Benn would both take James Toney ( at least the 168 version ) and Calzaghe would just about come out on top against Jones leaving Reid last but hes still just as good enough to be considered

:rofl:rofl:roflSo Joe takes out Jones at super middle ?Really :lol:I love Calzaghe but he doesn't see the final bell and I would favor Benn over Toney but not Eubank ..

Well yeah, Not saying Calzaghe would dominate but i think he could at least win 6 or 7 rounds on jones, Close rounds but i think he could do it.

And Eubank could beat toney as well as benn, he's underated by most because everyone hated him but he still came out on top and only lost towards the end of his career

no offense but if calzaghe fought jones 10 times he might have a chance at taking 6 or 7 rounds...in total.

i agree though with your analysis on eubank. brilliant fighter who bested benn at middle and had the tools to beat toney as well

I guess we would have to agree to disagree here....

I think Jones would possibly knock Joe out at that weight... Not because Joe is a lesser fighter, but because his style would not mesh well with the style of Jones at 168.

I honestly could not imagine Joe winning 6 rounds on that version of Jones.

i've gained more respect for joe over the years, in his skills and resume. i feel he did a lot with what he had and was essentially an over acheiver born with a lot of ability but not a ton of skills. he used what he had, speed, great flow of punches, chin, recovery, movement to compensate for poor fundamentals and sloppy technique. his career is damn impressive but he was what he always was: and that was never going to be enough to beat jones

I too have gained much respect for Calzaghe, I actually am a bit of a fan, not as much as i am of Jones of course.

I still can only think of a couple fighters all time that I might or might not pick over Jones 160-168... Calzaghe is not one of them.:good
