exactly. at 160 there's quite a few but not a single one that i would give better than 50-50 at 168. ****, except for fitzsimmons and langford i wouldn't give anyone even CLOSE to 50-50
Reid?! He lost his unbeaten record while in his prime to South Africa's version of Dot Cotton from EastEnders (Sugarboy Malinga). And you think he would beat Ward and Bute? I'm a Nigel Benn fan, but the very idea he would beat James Toney is utterly ridiculous. Benn would struggle to win a round vs the Toney of the Barkley fight. Stylistically, Benn is made for him.
Which supermiddle have you seen that you think would beat him, other than the other five listed in the tournament? Obviously not Kessler. Who then, Ottke? Really?
That's the point. Without seeing him at world level against a variety of styles, it's really not possible to gauge accurately.
Joe would be tough but that version of Jones was too quick ..If he had him hurt like he did just recently he would of finished him ..But still a tough fight Joe would be no walk in the park by any means it be a great tactical fight .. I like Eubank and Benn ..Me personally though I think the Dark Destroyer does better aginst Toney ..Eubank too me was good but to stiff for the slick Toney but hey Styles make fights so you never know .
im sorry man but prime Robin Reid was a good boxer, many people had him beating calzaghe, many fighters learn from there first defeat, dont recall his first loss as his prime, he dominated sven ottke and dominated fransisco antonio mora, he was a real fighter, dont tarnish his image like that , even though i agree with you his ability against ward and bute would be tested but dont rule the guy out
I'm not sure it was that many. Although the number seemed to increase as time went on. I mean, even Reid said he thought he had lost straight after the fight, but then claimed he was robbed in later years...
Jones beats Calzaghe by UD in group stages, but Joe gets revenge by SD in the finals. Adaptability wins rematch for Calzaghe. Roy was naturally more gifted, but relied too much on that, there's a reason why Tarver scored the KO in the rematch. Despite the speed and athletic disadvatages, Tarver already knew what Roy has to offer (even if at lightspeed), and was able to time Jones perfectly. I'm not saying it was the prime Jones, but I'm saying that Jones didn't grow old overnight between fight 1 and 2, but Tarver learned his stuff. Calzaghe had superb adaptability, would give away the early rounds that would cost him the 1st fight, but R13 favors him and wins a close but deserved split call in the final. I don't expect too much positive feedback.
Calzaghe Jones Toney Benn Eubank Hopkins (well if Abraham is in the current one, why not B-hop) there would be some great fights but as the thread starter stated, the 2006 Joe v Lacy... I don't think anyone could of lived with Calzaghe that night. I dunno, maybe a prime roy. grrrrrr. we'll never know how good would it have been guys?
like the list but we're including people who COULD have fought at that weight i say include someone like billy conn or sam langford
Toney was too inconsistent to be in the finals. He would have a brilliant fight one night and then one of those performances like when he lost to Thadzi or got a gift against Tiberi. Calzaghe beats Toney anyway, he would be the second fastest fighter Toney faced and what Joe lacks in speed compared to RJJ, he makes up with his insane workrate. A counterpunching style doesn't work well against a fighter who doesn't stop throwing punches.
I hate to say it, but Ottke needs to be in there. Probably Collins over Bute as well. What the hell has Ward done to be called one of the six greatest super middleweights of all time? Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Roy beats all of them rather easily. Benn has a puncher's chance, that's it.
