hi guys, i've been floating round here for about a year now, finding tips and nutrition advice and finally plunged in to ask a few questions. basically i train; twice a week at my local gym for 2 hours, and at least an hour a day at home (tied rope in my garage from each corner pf the room, so i can practice my pivots, rolls and defense (sport specific) twice a week at my weights gym doing power lifts; bench press, box squats, olympic lift, dead lift etc and twice a week doing endurance when im out running with the dog on the fields ... when your trying to keep ahead of a doberman it adds an insentive haha got a pretty strict diet, anything that doesn't need to be their isnt, and i try to keep it simple, white meats, red meats, fish, brown pasta and lots of greens but im looking into supplements to try to [push myself further just want some advice on this stuff, never heard of it before but my local gym is going to start stocking it, have any of you guys used it before http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160880819872&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT thanks in advanced DEEKO!
Greeting! Push your-self further where? Where are you actually right now? What is your goal? Bodybuilding?
my goal mate is to get in the best shape possible and start doing some amature fights but i wont be doing that until i know im as good as i can be, so i wanna push my strength, power, speed, endurance..... basically the whole package as far as i can im in good shape at the minute, i just want to get as good as i can. 110% sorta thing, for instance a pro boxer, trains all day long, but theirs not many people that could or would even be able to handle that mentally or physically. no im not a bodybuilder btw, i only do power lifts for one reason, to add POWER haha cheers for the welcome matey
Fish oil(wealth of benefits) first and foremost along with a multivitamin/multimineral. Glutamine can protect the immune system, although this would not be my 1st choice for supplements. Eat well, carbs and good fats are most important for an athlete such as a boxer. These things should help you be able to train and stay healthy. Drink a chocolate milk after workouts, Nesquik does not have high fructose corn syrup. Speed, power, endurance, and so forth are products of smart training. Pushing yourself "further" happens through smart training and is a cumulative effect. Know when to push training and back off, etc. Also, to be "as good as I can" gain knowledge on energy systems, get a heart rate monitor, know how to measure cardiac efficiency, and so forth. However, no sub for boxing skills. My .02.
I recommend salt, some minerals, calcium. When you sweat you loose a lot of it. This is one thing that makes people feel tired after doing heavy-workout for several weeks. However, most of this stuff you can get in normal food, if the meal menue is properly composed
good post mate, well a guy at my gyms got it in today and i've read through it, think im gonna order some just because its small servings (30g), i've tried a few supps before but generally the big brands are pretty crappy for me, always feel bloated after them and feel like my performance drops. i already understand the three different energy systems (cant remember the names :L) but basically you get your quick burst energy which is 100% for around 5 seconds then it burns up, then you rely on your medium energy system which lasts a decent ammount of time giving you maybe 70% of power/ speed ect and once thats burntup your on you endurance energy which is the eakesst but last the longest but produces the weakest output, i also know theirs ways of training it to increase the output of each system but you can only train each one so far i train only in intervals and circuits, switching it up going as hard as possible for burst of 30 seconds then taking it easy for 15 when im on the bags, i do stength training, loads of endurance, power training, resistance. injurys or sorness is a biggie for me, for instance skipping, i got to the point where i was overloading myself on it kinda thing and ended up doing abit of damage, had to back of with that for a few weeks so i see what you mean about training smart to JDSM heres what the label says waxy maize starch carbs(decent carb beats malto, fructose ect) flax seed. used to supplement with this a year or so ago, really good for omega 3, 6 and 9 and a blen of these at 9300mg per serving: co enzyme q10 createin l carnosine glucosamine glutamine bcaa's l tyrosine beta alanine choline bitrate magnesium vitamin b(branch) c taurine d aspartic acid im gonna grab some, its the only supplement ive ever seen specifically at boxers so its gotta be tried i guess
I'm not nearly as experienced as some of the guys who will reply to this but in my opinion just take a Multi-vitamin to fill the macronutrient gaps you aren't getting in your normal diet, take a fish oil and eat ALOT. Don't rely on supplements to make you better, only training can make you better.
i see your point mate but sports nutritionist arnt paid 100k in the pros to recomend calcium and salt my diets as good as its gonna get what with work and the kids getting in the way (pesky kids), and then theres certain micronutrients that cant be found in foods in high enough doses that have been tested and proven to give benefits to sportsn athletes surely supplements arnt all gimmiks, i know theirs alot of crap ones and over hyped but nutrients that can be found in high enough quantities in food are benefitial to sports even simple ones ike pure creatine, can find it in small quantities in red meat but to get the 3 grams a day that give you a boost you have to supplement it
When I was boxing I just took beta-alanine (3.2g per day) and citrulline malate (2:1 - 8g per day). The problem with citrulline malate is that the only company that sells the bonded CM is US based, so shipping costs are an issue. Most actual supplement companies are out to rip you off. They are essentially seeing who can sell the most crap for the most amount of money; you should buy ingredients and dose them yourself, rather than buying a product like the one posted in this thread, because most supplement companies won't even tell you how they've dosed their product. They can get away with just putting something like "anabolic legal steroid blend" 9000mg and list the ingredients, but not tell you the dose of each one, so you can be very confident that the bulk of that 9000mg is the cheapest/most worthless **** they have included in the ingredient profile. Hope that gives you a bit insight as to why a majority of supplements from supplement companies should be avoided :good
you don't NEED anything. A good diet is better then supplements however if your diet is lacking something then supplement it with a supplement but don't plan your diet around sups
luckily mate when im out of training and in my civillian clothes (hahaha) im an anaytical engineer for a company called leco instruments, we manufacture, service and run instruments that test metal, oils and most importantly for this case food products for governments, manufatures and authoritys to break down the labels and actual ingredients, check the nutrtion fact are true and check the quantities ect so i can check the label, if i dont get what they say then i can at least get my money back and maybe a good few quid more haha. cheers for the advice though mate, i've tried most of the big brands that say they'll move heaven and earth (unfortunatly before i started at leco) and all you get is a 2kg tub of dust and talc powder :fire
