Hi all. Been boxing for a couple months now and training hard for alot longer than that. I try and eat fairly good. My question is what supplements do people take and why. I dont take any. Im not against them as such just wouldnt know where to start with what works and whats just out to get your money. I dont want to bulk up im not a body builder im a boxer. Problems i have at the moment are a little sorness muscle wise after a good session the next day (but nothing major). My main problem im finding is joints being sore. Also as much as i try to eat plenty of fruit and veg im probably not getting enough vitimins. Basically im trying to be as healthy as i can now and want to take training to the next level. Any help links ect or advice appreciated. If you assume i know nothing about supplements youd be pretty close lol

That's a very big generalisation. While some supplements are complete toss others like Omega 3 oils have been clinically proven to be beneficial. While it would be better to get all we require from a good balanced diet sometimes it's just easier to supplement he and there.

Creatine is pretty good. But it can leave you drained when you stop taking it.

Creatine, protein, vitamines are the ones that work.

I would stay away from anything else.

Personally I take carbs, which is very important when you sweat much and to get energy, omega 3 oils, MCT oil, eat lots of nuts, fruits and vegetables, take different vitamins, calcium and magnesium to strengthen the bone to avoid injuries.

That's a very bold statement. If you want to perform at a high level you need supplements.

Not much beats a well balanced diet, organic if possible. If your diet isn't great, a good multivit will help you.

Glutamine can help with muscle soreness.

Glucosamine can help with joint pains.

I supplement my diet with many things but I'm not sure if they are what many consider supplements. Flax seeds (grounded) are by most peoples definition, but I don't agree. Green tea? Garlic? Stinging nettle? Ginseng? Ground Ivy? You can buy all of them in capsules if you desperately want them as pills.

I also take a multivitamin, although I doubt I need it, and glucosamine.

I would not call them **** and a waste of time per se, although most are. You don't need them however, they provide nothing that whole natural foods do not. My take on them would be useful but vastly overrated.

Alright, maybe you don't exactly need them, but you can't get everything from only having a good and varied diet. Some vital things come from supplements.

I don't agree with you on this one. Supplements are usually an isolated component of a natural food source. There is nothing vital that I can think of that only a supplement can provide. Supplements can make diet life a little easier sometimes, but they often don't work as well as the natural occurring whole source.

Glutamine is bull****, the rest has its use.

Edited: And this is for building muscle even. For a boxer it would be even more useless.
