And what has Diaconu shown that makes him so feared? That he can knockout hacks like Rico Hoye? Adrian Diaconu has shown NOTHING that he can beat Dawson, other than being a pretty good puncher, but thats about it. Dawson has shown a lot. I like to compare Diaconu to guys like Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito. Some people think their really good, when their really not.

So what you are saying is that a champion should never have to make a title defense UNLESS that mandatory challenger is 100% sure to beat him.

    Yeah.... that make sense....

I'm not saying that at all, as of matter fact I look forward to them fighting each other. But Diaconu isn't good as you fans say he is, when Dawson on the other hand is proven. I can go on about Dawson's strength and ability and it's actually legit, I can't say the same thing about Diaconu because their is still question marks about his ability.

There is no question of his ability...it's superior, built through over 300 amateur fights, several championships, and an undefeated pro record...Also has heavyweight power, quick reflexes, great defense, and a sense of balance and timing reminescent of a prime Kostya Tszyu.....Diaconu will crush the china-chinned hypejob known as Dawson....Bet on it:yep

Put your self in Dawson shoe's.

What do you won't out of boxing at this stage of your career?

I will take a wild guess MONEYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

He will glady drop that title like a hot potato for a big pay day against the likes of Tarver, RRJ , Hopkins and calzaghe.

Don't forget WBC don't pay the bills It is TV networks and they are the real power in this sport and if they put the coin up if Dawson beats JOhnson, the canadain guy can say good bye to fighting dawson.

No argument can be made for Dawson being ducked, save, possibly, by Tarver, who has been shot for a while. Dawson targeted Tarver precisely because he was a shot NAME.

Just because he can probably beat him (as indeed he can) it doesn't mean he's not ducking him. Think risk/reward.

Yeah, makes sense. Drop the belt then. But you cannot have belt and picking which fights you want all the time.

Diaconu was the one who postponed the fight with an injury, when Dawson was READY to fight him at September 29. How can Dawson be delaying a fight with Diaconu, when Diaconu was the one who delayed the bout in the first place. If Dawson is trying to duck Diaconu, he would of done his best to avoid him during the time period when they were scheduled to fight. Dawson is just trying to fight name opponents in the LHW division, he wanted a fight with Tarver, but that didn't happen so he agreed to fight Diaconu, and the rest is history.

It was revealed last week that Romanian light heavy Adrian Diaconu, the WBC’s #1 and mandatory challenger to champion Chad Dawson, will fight for the interim title in March rather than taking on the WBC title holder.

It is absolutely baffling why this interim title fight is being set up. According to the relevant section of the WBC rulebook, an interim championship can be ordered “when a world champion will be temporarily inactive and unable to defend his title for a period to exceed 6 months.”Well, Dawson isn’t inactive at all. He’s defending his title against Glen Johnson just two weeks after Diaconu will pick up the interim title.

It seems to be the case that Dawson’s promoter Don King went ahead with putting on the fight against Johnson, despite knowing full well that Diaconu - who had beaten Rico Hoye in the official eliminator last May - was mandatory challenger, and that that mandatory challenger would have to be fought within a year. So it seems that King has ridden roughshod over WBC championship regulations, and the WBC has let him do it. Giving Diaconu an “interim” title bout - doubtless to involve sparkly title belts, world title fight billing - oh, and another sanctioning fee - looks like move to pacify the Romanian and his team, who have been denied their shot at the title at the time they were entitles to it.

Some analogies to this situation may make reference to bribery. We can only hope that Dawson and Diaconu will finally get into the ring to face each other immediately after their next fights. If this turns into another Wonjongkam/Arce farce, then the WBC will be in serious danger of pushing the limits of even the pretence of integrity too far.

I believe this is the article Maxime posted in French yesterday..Cheers
