I've always wondered what the outcome would have been if Ali gave Foreman a shot to regain the HW title October 1975 instead of Joe Frazier. Could Ali have caught lightening in a bottle twice? Or would Foreman come into the fight in great condition and better prepared for Ali's "rope a dope" strategy and eventually catch Ali with a big shot to KO him? (Ali was still a very effective fighter in 75--this was right before he started his painful decline.)

I’d be confident Foreman wins a rematch.

Same result. Ali might even stop him sooner, since Foreman was coming off a long lay-off.

    Foreman would've stopped him.

Ali knew this was a bad idea and that's why he allegedly told Foreman to rehire Dick Saddler and asked him to fight Ken Norton again. He was in no hurry to have the rematch because his reflexes, footwork, and timing were rapidly declining post Zaire, which meant using footwork to stick and move wasn't an option. He also knew that the rope a dope wouldn't work twice, which meant a KO would be unlikely without exhausting Foreman.

Most likely result is Foreman winning an ugly decision based on a higher work rate+cleaner jabs and power punches landed to the body. Ali would be out of ideas after a few half hearted attempts to use his old tricks and would spend most of each round just covering up, clinching, or throwing a few flurries that do little damage. It would be very difficult for a past his prime Ali to win at mid range ring center against Foreman without his legs and head movement. Ali still had fast hands, but his accuracy was inconsistent and his discipline to stay in shape significantly worse.

I'm confident Ali wins again Especially if it's in 1975. Foreman would try to pace himself better but Ali would outbox him from ring centre. If George attempts to fight Muhammad as he did in Zaire, then it's deja vu.

Ali via stoppage between 12th - 15th round.

Agree, I don't think George would be confident at all in there.

I think that Muhammad Ali defeats George Foreman again, his ego was already deflated.

Is it in Manila? In that humidity? If so, I favour Ali.

Ali wins again. Obviously he wouldn't repeat the rope-a-dope tactic but would instead fight defensively using his speed and mobility to win on points.

I would still go with Muhammad Ali by decision or late stoppage, with George Foreman retiring in 1975 instead of 1977.

Ali wins a decisive UD in a much less impressive performance. Foreman does a lot of of moving forward, but eats tons of jabs and lead right hands. He never really lands flush on Ali, though there are a couple of shaky moments.

After the 11th round Foreman looks pretty much like he did after the 6th round in Zaire. Since that time, however, he's learned better how to hold when hurt, and though he himself is staggered from the lead rights more than once, he survives.

Foreman looks terrible at the end.
