It would have been a big boast for Jimmy and may have influenced the judges in subsequent battles....Young beats all the punchers in the 70's, Norton was a tough battle because of styles but I thought Jimmy beat him

I don't necessarily think so. Not unless Arum signed him up and actually got behind him, which I doubt. More like a case of how Bob handled Weaver later on and pretty much trying to get Young beat by everyone he faces as opposed to matching him with softer styles.

And King was really not a huge player at the time like he became later & could not get the Ali camp to sign for the Foreman rematch. Just the isolated Ali title fights & that was it for DKP. Maybe he comes in and signs Young but I just don't see it. If he choose to, King could have signed him and offered up some easy paydays and very winnable fights against the like of a Mercado. Or 3rd bouts with either Shavers or Lyle or something along those lines. But I just don't think King in 76 is going to do that.

Young was just in a bad bad position and was simply never ever going to have the popularity/following of Ali or Foreman or even Norton. For a sport that settles everything in the ring with 1 guy against another, it's funny how often things are not fair in the sport.

Young deserved decision. Don't forget, so many people flooded NBC phone lines after decision was announced the phones went down from overload. Ali was getting many gift decisions cause they (promoters, televsion people, cable operators) wanted him to stay as champ due to his bringing in higher ratings and more money. If Young decision had not caused such an uproar, Leon Spinks may have been denied verdict in their fight.

Spinks won fight 1 pretty easy on my cards, but Spinks won by a SD in that fight. Should have been a UD and all the score cards rounds were close.

It's possible that Young may have become better as champion...Some fighters do. If he did he might have kept himself in good shape and given us some entertaining fights. I think those disappointing decisions turned Young sour toward boxing and he realized the powers that be didn't want him as a champion... just a useful contender. It's too bad because he really was a good fighter when motivated.

Let's both bask in the glow of honor, Stevie G....in the past few days I've had a classic relic of mine...the Hugo Corro-Sven Ottke thread revived...the least likely thread of it's kind to have a second life..I'm still aflush with gratification..:D

My man Jimmy Young was screwed over..it was quite a task for him to deal with the opponent in the ring and the three myopic swindlers called "judges" outside the ring.

I sure think Young beat him..I think Norton thought so too, and was delighted that he got the gift of an underserved decision.

Young did beat Norton as far as I'm concerned and he actually hurt Norton a couple of times in thier fight as well. Jimmy had a little more pop to his punches than many give him credit for and Norton found this out. Otherwise Kenny would've fought a little more aggressively if he knew Jimmy couldn't hurt him but that wasn't the case. Young just wasn't the type of fighter the boxing establishment wanted as it's champion.
