Sven Ottke Born 3 June 1967 is a retired 5'10 Super Middleweight with a record of 34-0 6 KO's. Amateur record of 256-47-5. Born in Spandau, Berlin, Germany and he resides in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. One of the most frustrating fighters of the last 20 years both to watch and for his opponents to fight. He held a lot, he ran, he love the jab, he used every trick at his disposal to irritate his opponents and get them out of their rhythm and he would also in the end do just enough to steal the rounds, he had basically no punching power at all, sporting only 6 measly KO victories, he was the very definition of a featherfist. His matches were irritating borefests of the highest order, add to that the only place he ever fought was in Germany, with his own personal judges and referees, and was the recipient of a few questionable decisions, he wrote that blueprint that many German fighters follow to this day, but in the end he always did jus enough to eke out the victory. But take a closer look at all of these some would say repellant qualities that most find abhorrent and look a little closer, what do you see? He's the German version of Andre Ward.:D And like Ward there was no blueprint to beat the Ottkemeister, although I'm pretty sure one guy would have definitely had it, Joe Calzaghe, but of course he ducked him like a mother****er, so we'll never know. His match against Reid is shameful with one of the worst reffing jobs I've ever seen, but when all is said and done he has one of the better resumes at SMW, he defended is title 21 times and the 1 thing I am eternally grateful to him for is that he delivered a harrowing hair-raising glancing one punch KTFO blow to that piece of garbage Anthony Mundine, knocking him out cold.:rofl So Check Out The Masterful Phantom At Work if you can Bear It.:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb

I was never a fan of his but he fought a hell of a lot of top fighters in the amateurs.

Michael Moorer - WBO LHW champion, WBA, IBF, WBO HW champ

Henry Maske - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist, European gold medalist x 3, long reigning IBF LHW champ

    Ariel Hernandez - 2 x Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist x 2 & 1 x silver

Alexander Lebziak - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold & silver medalist, European gold medalist x 2, silver x 1, bronze x 2

Chris Byrd - Olympic silver medalist, WBO & IBF HW champion

Zsolt Erdei - world amateur gold medalist, Olympic bronze medalist, European gold medalist x 2 & silver x 1, long reigning WBO LHW champ, WBC CW champ

Torsten May - Olympic gold medalist, world amateur gold medalist

Vassiliy Jirov - Olympic gold medalist, 2 x world amateur bronze medalist, IBF CW champion

Juan Carlos Gomez - long reigning WBC CW champ, world junior champion as an amateur

Antonio Tarver - world amateur gold medalist, Olympic bronze, WBC, IBF, WBA LHW champ

Angel Espinosa - world amateur gold and silver medalist

Sinan Samil Sam - world amateur gold and bronze medalist, European bronze and silver medalist, world junior gold medalist, European HW champion

Andrey Kurniavka - world amateur gold and silver medalist, European bronze medalist

Ramon Garbey - world amateur gold & bronze medalist

Torsten Schmitz - world amateur silver medalist 2 x bronze, European silver medalist

Egerton Marcus - Olympic silver medalist

Thomas Ulrich - Olympic bronze medalist, world amateur bronze medalist, world junior silver medalist, European LHW champ

Rostislav Zaulichnyy - world amateur bronze medalist, 2 x European bronze medalist, gold medalist at the world cup

Chris Johnson - Olympic bronze medalist, world amateur bronze medalist

Henryk Petrich - Olympic bronze medalist

Rhoshii Wells - Olympic bronze medalist

Jean-Paul Mendy - world amateur bronze medalist, 2 x European bronze

    Fought Moorer x 2
    Ariel Hernandez x 4
    Lebziak x 4
Maske x 2 (think it was even more times than that)
    Tarver x 2
    Torsten May x 2
    Tortsen Schmitz x 2
    Garbey x 2
    Mendy x 2
    Chris Johnson x 3

He probably fought some of those guys even more than that, they're just the results I could find. And he fought a load more quality amateurs too, national champions, champions of their continent, gold, silver, bronze medalists in various prestigious international tournaments etc.

If it wasn't for US boxing journalists being biased he'd be introduced into the HOF already. It's a disgrace really.

Italian Canadian Gatti was inducted because he was exciting, not because he was (n't. There goes your theory) American. Ottke was very good but not the most compelling to watch.

Great post Serge! Nice. Didn't know any of that. Funny how his amateur resume is gold but his pro can't compare.

except for the mundine fight i did all the round by rounds on here.

johnson was one of his better performances / johnson was so frustrated by svens footwork .

on the minus side sven was given a 50 foot ring to fight in /had brilliant legspeed and mobilty /and was informed on the judges scores /so if up on the cards with 3 rounds to go simply got on his bike / i think it was the glen johnson fight from memory but around rounds 11 or 12 he never attempted to throw a punch knowing he was ahead.

Ok so it's about excitement? Then how did Virgil Hill get in? He put people to sleep with his fights *AND* he has few compelling achievements.

How on earth did Hill get in and Ottke did not? I'm usually not a tinfoil hat but anyone who doesn't see an American bias in the HOF is clearly missing something IMO.
