You really are clueless Ottke was at the end of his career In his late 30s and made over 20 defences when Kessler was a little known 33-0 contender Amazing how when I say that you try and use Kessler's non world title belts as an argument when you have said before on here not to use belts as an argument lol So tell me all about the 33-0 Kessler because although he was a promising up and comer really wasn't as highly regarded as he became until he beat ottke victim mundine Can't wait for this answer lol
Bailey.... Joe and Sven made 20+ defenses each w/o facing one another. EACH! No one else comes CLOSE to that string for a proper comparison. And don't defend that crap... you know as well as I that's a **** show for both.
I agree they did I read that ottke wasn't interested, but when ottke retired calzaghe hadn't made 15 defences, so let's not add another number
Joe deserves credit for beating Hopkins, but not for fighting Roy. Roy was no longer an elite level fighter in 2008, where Joe himself literally labelled him as being a shot fighter, even before they fought. Joe didn’t fight just who he could, who was available. He made a conscious decision to defend a lightly regarded WBO belt for a decade. Nobody pressured him to do that. Yet he was more than happy to do it. He’s bragged a number of times throughout the years of his number of WBO title defences. And if you look at his defences, most of them were against European level fighters. Not European fighters, but European level fighters. Although it’s fair to say that Joe didn’t have much elite level competition to pursue, he always had the LHW division to move up to. A LHW division which contained lots of recognisable names. And Joe toyed with the idea of moving up his whole career. For years he struggled to make SMW, coming down from 200 pounds. For years he spoke of having a speed advantage at the weight. But he never moved up until 2008, even when at times he’d hit a dead end at SMW. Defending a lightiy regarded WBO belt against mostly level guys in Britain, meant that Joe flew under the radar for a long period of his career. When Joe put in a masterclass against Jeff Lacy in 2006, he was still somewhat unknown to the American fans and media at the time. Regarding an earlier fight with Roy, Joe had no intentions of fighting him back in the day. None whatsoever. Without moving up to LHW and fighting in America, the fight could never happen. And Joe knew that. He’s also on record in the late 90’s, saying that he wasn’t chasing Roy as he didn’t want tough fights.
My bad...only making 15 concurrently. terrible for both...especially considering 75% of their defenses were crap...
I was just about to post that Loudon is going to make an appearance in this thread very soon and sure enough
It’s not lies at all. About the same age means nothing in boxing. Every fighter ages differently. Joe Calzaghe - 2007: “A fight between me and Roy Jones is pointless. He’s no longer a great fighter” “I also have no interest in Antonio Tarver. All he ever did was beat a shot Jones, before Glen Johnson did the same” Joe fought Roy in 2008 despite what he’d said the year before. And he wouldn’t even entertain pursuing Roy when Roy was still great.
It’s okay, I knew that you’d be here before I’d finished reading the first 2 pages. As always, you’re free to come and refute what I’ve said.
I think I was reasonably clear in my previous posts. Your premise relies on Joe moving upto Light Heavy early in his career to fight people like Roy earlier. That however is a flawed premise to put lightly as we can do that with most fighters who are not Heavy. What you are doing is what's called a fallacy arguement as one could say Floyd should have gone to Middle and fought GGG. It's pointless as you're applying several of a possible 5 fallacies in order to supprt your bias. I clearly stated that some of Joe's defences weren't the strongest however I felt he finished his career with some good wins. Yes Roy was no longer elite and was passed his best but he was still capable of beating the B level guys. So no it's not his best win but it's certainly not his worst either. Also Joe was passed prime himself and it was the last fight of his career so he wanted a big name and Roy was willing. You state about his weight. Yet he never missed weight and was average height at Super Middle..yet you ignore the fact that nearly all fighters at the lower than Heavy weights boil down so they can rehydrate that's been the case for the last 2-3 decades. So I' mot really sure what your saying other than you don't like Joe and let me make my position clear I'm not a fanboy or a hater. Although I will counter BS that's extreme in either direction. When we don't like something it's easy to nitpick and pull apart but understand that we can do that to literally anything we look at. If you told me your favorite fighters I could easily do the same no fighter fights everyone at there prime it's not remotely possible. as there's old fighters and younger that overlap in any given timeline it's just the way it's always been.
Refute what you've said? Joe hung up his gloves over 13 years ago you absolute lunatic. I moved on years ago because I got sick and tired of going round in circles for years debating the exact same arguments over and over and over and over again. It's obsessed nuts like you who can't let it go. You've devoted an absolutely freakish amount of time to trying to discredit Joe and you're still at it to this day over 13 years after he hung up his gloves and you'll still be doing it in 13 years from now I would much rather discuss boxing and the boxers of today instead of being stuck in a continuous time loop discussing Roy and Calzaghe like you Go post in the Classic if you want to discuss fighters who are long retired Even if I still had any interest in debating the exact same arguments for eternity with utterly obsessed loons why would I continue to waste my time on people like you after I've gone to great lengths to explain things to you in the past, providing links, quotes, watching fights and editing video clips and uploading them onto Youtube for you then to agree with me and then months later you go right back to repeating the same crap again like it never happened? This has happened numerous times and you know it has because I've had to pull you up on it a bunch of times. It's completely pointless you're still going to be obsessing about this and unable to let it go and move on for many years to come. And you wonder why I get pissed off with you?
Listen Loudon you know I like you and Ill apologize for the insults albeit you know it's not said with any malice But I just don't understand why you can't just move on and let this go. There are fighters I can't stand and whilst I might take the occasional shot because they're still involved in the sport I sure as hell haven't been and won't be obsessing about them long after they've retired. And I don't like the way people gang up on Bailey and try and drive him off the forum. He's only just returned for goodness sake
Hope you aren't suggesting I was a part of the gang up. With respect to Bailey, he's too black and white with virtually all his posts. Too much a numbers guy. If he was an accountant (CPA) in real life, I would NOT be the least bit surprised.
