I havent seen him in too many p4p rankings. For good reasons. He had an effective, awful style, same genetics as John Ruiz i guess. Everytime i saw him it was so painful i couldnt even fall to sleep when watching him. Alone for that he doesnt deserve a top200 p4p ranking.
He had a great defence and good durability. His ability to play the ref and dodge big shots would be a handy trick for a lot of fighters. I always remember watching the Robin Reid fight. It was so unfair and biased that it was almost funny to watch. Reid was champion that night.
Who else held there hands up for 12 rounds better than Ottke? Most of these guys drop their hands by the 4th round & they don't even hold them up all that high in the first place to even warrant dropping them. Ottke hardly had a crowd pleasing style but those 35-0 w/ 6 ko guys get their results with boxing smarts anyway. He had an abundance of ringsmarts in there and just imagine other fighters all of a sudden being handicapped w/ feather fists & go project how their career looks. Unlike many other "high potential" type fighters that never pan out, Ottke was the rare breed that actually made 100% use of the tools he had.
I wouldn't of called it funny. It was one of the most sickening fighs i've ever seen and I always felt sorry for Reid. What would of made it funny is seeing Reid snap and plant one on the ref. ****er would of deserved it.
He was never in any p4p top 10 as far as i can remember. Everyone knew he got gift decisons and should have had at least 3 losses on his record.
Yep, what a fight/mess this was. Didnt the ref warn Reid for throwing a haymaker? lol I have never seen a ref getting a fighter that much out of his rythm again. The refs name is Roger Tilleman, and he never was a ref in a title fight (not even some bogus national title) before or after Ottke - Reid.
