Ottke hid away in Germany fighting nobodys lots of dodgy points decions keeping out the way of anybody dangerous .beat Jones no chance!
Get out of here with this This content is protected , this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard on this forum. Really? Sven had better wins than James Toney, Reggie Johnson, Mike McCallum, John Ruiz and Bernard Hopkins? GTFOH you idiot.
Sven Ottke was a good fighter who was completely protected in Germany. There are robberies then there are Ottke robberies. Should probably have 3 losses at least. And yeah, RJJ dominated Hopkins and Toney. Throw Ottke in there and he gets stopped wherever the fight is held. There is a reason Ottke is not viewed highly.
Ya'll must have forgot that James Toney is also a bum who was recently beaten by a cab driver and a homeless guy with 20L on his record. In fact if RJJ and Toney are so great the Denis Lebedev is TBE since he beaten both, back to back
Right, because the shot-to-pieces 40-something Toney of this decade is the same as the prime Toney of the 90s, just as the same shot-to-pieces 40-something Jones Jr. of this decade is the same as the prime Jones of the 90s. atsch
I don't care dude, as long as they are fighting NOW i will judge their performance from now, not 20 years ago. If they wanted to be remembered like they were 20 years ago they should have quit back then. And just for the record, the hobos beating Toney are also in their 40's, I can only think it was a fair fight and they would have won 20 years ago too
Anyone who thinks Roid beats Ottke is either severely deluded or just doesn't understand boxing. I'm a former amateur boxing star in the Nottinghamshire area so know a wee bit about fighting. Any idiot can see how Ottke would negate all of Roid's offence, box rings around him using his superior footwork and handspeed and cruise to a UD victory. Ottke has the better resume. The win over prime Robin Reid beats all of Roid Jones overrated opponents and postmen he beat up. In fact, considering Roid has the most fragile mandible in boxing; I wouldn't be shocked in Sven stopped him.
When Joe Calzaghe got in the Hall of Fame, I figured Sven Ottke deserved to go in, too. They basically defended against the same competition as pros. (In many cases, the exact same.) Both defended their titles against: Charles Brewer, Robin Reid, Byron Mitchell, David Starie, Rick Thornberry, Tocker Pudwill. Both unified titles at super middleweight. Calzaghe fought Mario Veit ... Ottke fought Mads L****n. Calzaghe fought Richie Woodhall, Chris Eubank and Sakio Bika ... Ottke fought Anthony Mundine, Silvio Branco and Thomas Tate. Calzaghe faced Jones and Hopkins. Ottke faced Glen Johnson. It's basically six of one, half-dozen of another. Calzaghe's pro resume is slightly better, but not by much. (By a Kessler win, more or less.) Joe finished his career on a couple high notes. On the other side, Ottke's amateur record blows Calzaghe's out of the water. Calzaghe basically fought in UK tournaments. Ottke fought in THREE Olympic Games and multiple World Championships and Goodwill Games. Ottke was no slouch. He just didn't have power. That was the basic difference. From skills, competition and achievement levels, not much. Calzaghe only slightly edges him.
^^^ I agree. Ottke often gets underrated purely because he lacked power. But for a guy to retire undefeated (and beat some quality opponents) despite being feather-fisted shows how good he was.
