Ottke and Calzaghe had 6 common opponents, each fighting 3 before the other Calzaghe agreed to go to Germany You should check out all of the facts a bit better
2003 my mistake i remember the picture of the chicken , not seen it since i used to do all the german fight cards round by rounds on esb , i have german tv , cant remember when i joined i think it was 2001 ottke did not ever mention calzaghe in the post fight interviews. old uli wegner was a real sourpuss but a good cornerman
Will be interesting for me to keep an eye on your posting on the subject. I have followed SMW closely from the beginning. My favourite division since the Leonard/Hearns rematch. I believe it was an article in boxing news where Ottkes trainer mentioned Sven didnt want to know against Calzaghe
I wouldn't put much credence in these clips. It looks like the BBC was just printing Fr*nk W*rren press releases word for word back then. The German papers printed equally glowing articles about Ottke. Here's one BBC article giving Ottke's side. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/2992148.stm W*rren not negotiating for three years and then calling out an old champ months before he calls it a career is kind of lame. Frank called out a lot of people in those days. You can find articles with Frank calling out everyone. But back then he was content to stay home and keep his fighters there, too. (I notice they said they'd fight Mundine tomorrow, and that fight didn't happen, either.) Ottke retired three months in to 2004. Still, it took Calzaghe several years before he stepped up and unified. Even then, Lacy and Kessler had to come to him. When Calzaghe finally left the UK to fight big names in the U.S., and tried to break from W*rren, he did just fine. But, when they were active at the same time, Ottke was considered the more legit champ than the WBO's Calzaghe. A Sven Ottke-Markus Beyer WBA, IBF and WBC unification would've been a big fight at that time, too. It would've happened in Germany and would've been much easier on Ottke. The WBC belt was certainly considered a bigger prize than a WBO belt. But Ottke was basically done.
You are writing that because I advised you to, but I didnt write anything incorrect to you whereas you made some eras
That comment wasnt correct it was around 50/50 and you are trying to make it sound all one way That comment isnt correct as Ottkes trainer said Sben didnt want to know and Calzaghe did fight outside the UK in Denmark and... wait for it... Germany in his career Yet you said that after Ottke retired it took Calzaghe years to unify so that statement isnt correct either Wrong again. Calzaghe was rated #1 before Ottke retired and Ottke #2 You write that even though Calzaghe agreed to face Hopkins in America You did ask for it atsch. I would have let it go
I though Super Middleweight was your favorite division? You don't seem to know much about it. Yes, it took Calzaghe two years after Ottke retired to unify with Lacy and more than three years after Ottke retired to defend against Kessler. Ottke retired in 2004. The Calzaghe-Lacy fight was in 2006, and the Calzaghe-Kessler fight was in 2007.
It's official this board has turned to **** now that we got Otteke fans arguing with Calzaghe fans ..OH the mediocrity !
