Boxing is not won by ineffective aggressivness and Ottke is known to make the offense of his opponents ineffective. That fight would be a very very ugly one. Similar to Hopkins-Calzaghe but with Ottke using his feet more and not gassing in the second half of the fight. Calzaghe would win fights on workrate but he will at least drop one on looking like a fool missing all of his punches in his flurries
I thought Ottke lost three fights in his career. Reid - a big robbery, no excuses. Awfull referee. Brewer 1 Larsen - not as controversial as the two others but Larsen won the fight on my card. Larsen took his rage out on poor Haussler a couple of weeks later. Those who say Ottke lost to Starie and even Johnson are simply biased against Germany, both are clear wins for Ottke.
I must agree here - anyone who thinks Starie did anything but lose needs to watch more boxing! I wouldn't say Johnson was a clear win at all, I wouldn't really complain had it gone either way. It depends on what style you prefer how you score this one. Glen was the aggressor, Ottke diffused that to a degree but didn't fire back with much of his own.
Ottke wasn't too bad, but he will always be remembered for running from Joe Calzaghe(even the 'I can't possibly let my cash cow lose Frank Warren' was desperately trying to get Ottke for Joe,even in Germany;so what does THAT tell you?) plus two very dodgy hometown decisions against Robin Reid and Mads Larsen
Exactly my opinion as well. I didnt have it for Brewer by much but you could understand why he felt robbed, whether it was by a inch or a mile, he had reason to believe he had fairly won that fight. Not near as bad as Reid though. Im pretty sure I scored that for Larsen aswell but I was kind of expecting a draw to be announced for some reason as it was a pretty pitiful fight from both. I just dont know what was Larsen's mindset during some of those later rounds.
I think Ottke is not given proper credit on that borad. Sure he was often boring to watch and defensive minded. But some biased people esp. from Britain try to take every credit from the german. He has one real undoubtful robbery (Reid) and two fights with tendency to his opponent (Brewer 1, Larsen). Tate1 is questionable, but in the rematch Ottke dominated completely. The people who think the Mitchell fight (Mitchell himself stated the dec. was ok after the fight) or the Starie fight (completely bogus) were even near a robbery are simply ******ed or just british. Sorry no offense to our british friends, but when it comes to Germany or german people a lot of you are simply prejudiced and biased. Thats a fact. He has legit over people like Mundine, Glen Johnson, Tate, Branco, Mitchell, Markussen. Thats pretty impressive. I give him credit for that.
It is, it's like some slapstick movie. In a way his whole style is rather peculiar, but what he does is fairly skillful. He seems to make little happen - not the most attractive of styles though.
An on the slide Robin Reid beat Ottke by at least 2 -3 rounds,JC would have won by an even greater margin. Reid laughed when a German interviewer as about how JC and SO compared,he didn`t give the diplomatic answer,he gave the true answer,he said JC was in a different league. :hi:
I don't think the first Brewer fight was remotely dubious - and the Mitchell fight was only slightly more dubious than that. I often defend Ottke on here because of the pure hatred of him, but I can't defend the Reid fight - I just can't.
Are you serious?!!??!!? Sven had no intention of leaving Germany. And likewise Joe had no intention of leaving Wales. Both guys were makign easy money and neither man wanted the fight thats real.
Ottke was a real disgrace in this fight, lots of people lost even more respect for the guy when this fight took place, he was basically asking the ref for help, which he gave him! There should have been an official investigation into what happened.
Overall it sounds like Ottke won at least five fights that could conceiveably have gone the other way, which smells fishy.
