Ottke was very good. I dislike him but credit were credit is due. He fought the best avalaible in his division - with one exception - fought often and had very good skills. Yeah, he is boring to watch but if you just concentrate on what he does ... well, at times it was quite impressive.

Because it´s pointless. And with my answers to your post and yours to mine I´ll show you why.

    That´s true and it´s a disgrace.

Yes I do. The Reid fight was pure evil but neither Brewer I nor the Larsen fight were robberies. I have no complaints if somebody scored the fight for Brewer but I had it for Ottke by one point. Close fight, which could have gone either way. The Larsen fight was very strange. Larsen could have won it if he would have done more but he did just nothing. I was very dissapointed in him because I cheered for him. I preferred Larsen at the time over both German smws, he´s on a comeback tour btw. His fight with contest should have been a no contest since it wasn´t a fight at all. Again a close fight but Ottke winning sounds more right since Larsen was the challenger and just did nothing to prove he wanted to become a world champion.

Brewer II was not close. That was a very clear win for Ottke. The Mitchell fight was close but clear. That´s no coincidence. It has to do with your first point. When Ottke knew the other fighter needs a knockout to win he didn´t do anything anymore. I remember his trainer saying to him, "you already won, just run and act as if you were punching." If Ottke would have fought on like he did to that point his close wins wouldn´t be close at all. Btw. the only time he was behind on the scorecards he took some risks and knocked his opponent out. Should tell you something.

Ottke was ahead on the cards and would have won anyway. And he schooled Tate in the rematch.

No, not all of your points were valid since your points 2, 3 and 4 are just your oppinion which is very biased.

True. Very bad for boxing and the status of German boxing.

Well, maybe even you really think that Ottke won those fights, there is still another point which you most certainly can not anwer:

    - I do not think getting the nod in all those fights was a coincide as you can not win close fights in Germany. The last tme it happened was Maske - Hill in 1996. Are you aware of other examples? If not, that is proof enough to me that Ottke did not win those fights fairly.

Why don't you try actually watching them and scoring for yourself rather than relying on bad logic to draw conclusions.

One more time: Reid was a robbery, Larsen was razor thin, the Brewer fight was also close but not a horrible decision as it could have gone either way.

Ottke's other wins against very good quality opposition were legitmate.

You can hate on the guy's style as many on this board do, but the fact is that he was an extremely effective fighter and simply outboxed many of the top super middles of his era. He deserves credit for that.

I think there is perhaps a lot of dislike toward Ottke because his "achievements" diminish those of perhaps others favourite undefeated boxers - and therefore their definition of what they perceive "Greatness" to be. That and, that his style was pretty unpleasing on the eye.

I haven't seen a huge amount of Ottke fights but from what I'm gathering from those who have actually sat through them; the Reid fight is the only fight that can really be classed as a real robbery - and he deserves credit for much of the rest of his resume. However much, or little credit one heaps on a resume like that anyway.

I have seen all of his title fights and there is no bad logic. I have even watched him before his title fights and have been following German closely for the last 15 years. That makes argumantaion that I did not see his fights invalid.

You are just not able to answer the following question:

The last close fight win in a title fight DATES BACK to Hill-Maske in 1996 . Are you aware of other examples? Can anyone answer here this question please?

    Quite possibly true.

Though this brings us back to the matter of Ottke getting official scores between rounds. If this truly happened -- and do we know for sure it did? -- then that would compel one to scrutinize his career much more closely.

Whoever posted about this before (again, I think it was sean) said that in one Ottke fight it was very close, and yet in the 12th round he did nothing but run. This was due to him knowing the scores, whereas if he'd been in doubt he might have taken chances and hurt/stopped. Who knows?

I'm certainly no Ottke expert, but I've seen a few fights and used to defend him. After finally watching Reid, though, I have no use for him. I lost all respect.

My point is not that German judging isn't potenially biased, but rather that Ottke's win were often legit, which people don't give him credit for.

He beat Brewer in the second fight clearly, Tate twice, Glen Johnson, Byron Mitchell, etc. I don't care what soil those fights were on, they were decision wins by Ottke using objective criteria.

The thread is, after all, about Ottke.

Quot erat demonstrandum. You are not worth my time. You will always make something up to defend your position even if it´s not defendable.

As far as I know there is no prove for it but when I watch his fights I think it´s true. But it hurt him more than anybody else because without that BS, those close fights wouldn´t be close at all. Still, a very bad thing.

Moreno won against Sydorenko a few months back...I thought it was difficult to score fight and had Sydorenko by 1 round. Moreno won smth like 8-9 rounds on the judges score cards. Also, go to espn.com and look form the pieces by Graham Houston who wrote about getting decision in Germany. I think it is lots of stereoptypes involved when it comes to Germany. Fighting in Germany or in the UK or States is not much different if you are forgein. Any way you turned, you are ****ed up.

Here is the article, pretty good as all Houston's stuff.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3209955

I think you may consider getting those streams from ARD and ZDF. You may then lay down your UK glasses and enjoy in some good boxing.

    cheers

Heh??! What's the point? He did what he did because he could! Does anyone excuse him in this board? Not that I know...you, Joe, Bernhard and bunch of others (if not all) would have done the same had yo been in exactly the same situation as poor Ottke in the twilight of his career. And this is not an excuse, just an observation about human nature ;)
