I thought he also edged it out against Brewer the first time around. Was the closest fight of all his close fights though. Close fights are no robberies.

I said that there was ONE clear robbery. But ALL other fights are at least discussable. Reid war robbet in the worst way, I must admit that, but I just don´t see Ottke as the reincarnation of the devil himself some posters here try to make him. He had good opponents and garbage opponents. Most champions of that time had that.


@Uppercut: of course most of my postings are about german based fighters, cause they are the fighters I know most about. But I also like for example british fighters like Lennox, Slappy Joe, Naseem and many more.

Funny though that in here many people give him credit even though they are not from Germany. But you are a joke. I bet you didn´t even see the fight you comment on here.

 

I've seen about 11/12 Ottke fights and he won about half of them clearly, the other half he was "helped".

the main Ottke fight I seen was through British interest when he fought the well known to me Runcorns - Robin Reid.

A very corrupt joke of a fight.

Reid was being warned all the time for petty infringements - disrupting his fighting rhythm and reducing the fight to a farce - for Christ sake this was a boxing match - not a old womans tea party - if Reid so much as breathed on Ottke he was ticked off about it.

The ref plunged to new depths of insanity when Reid after landing a good flush right hand on Ottke was warned by the ref -

I stress there was nothing illegal about the punch - it wasnt hit with the wrong part of the glove or anything like that - it was a flush clean legal blow - and the ref warned Reid not to punch Ottke like that again :nut :nut :nut :rofl :rofl :rofl

Basically Reid was ****ed - because of you are not even allowed to punch your opponet how the hell can you win a boxing match???????????

He floored Ottke with a good combination of clean solid punches - the ref picked Ottke up and wiped his gloves ruling it a slip :nut :nut :nut

If I was Reid I would have punched the ref - I actually am being serious - because this ref was such a twat he was ruining the sport of boxing and reducing it to a joke

You cant compare Ottke to Calzaghe

Calzaghe has got 1000% more heart and conviction in having a real fight and was much a truer champion that Ottke ever was - not to mention clearly much better

Ottke was a paper champion

Calzaghe would have smashed him anytime - but not in Germany as Joe would not have been allowed to punch ottke without a disqualification

Ottke was obviously a good pro to compete at world level - but the bias and corruption that surrounds his title reign makes his legacy a mockery and joke of the sport of boxing

 

Undefeated, unified 2/3rds of the world championship, over 20 title defenses. Defeated 6 future or former champions. This is a Hall of Fame career.

 

Ottke might very well be inducted to the IBHOF in 2009 :yep

Let's face it: only 1 1/2 robberies (Reid and a fight that should have been at least a draw vs Brewer), 2 close calls (Larsen and Brewer 2) - the rest was LEGIT...

 

We rehash this thread every few months or so. Tom is right, Reid was a joke but every other win was legit. The Brewer fights even aren't disputable, maybe draws, but perhaps not even that.

Ottke gets no credit for his abilities, but make no mistake he had tremendous boxing skill.

 

Don't you think the fact he new the judges scorecards throughout his fights is a disgrace and totally invalidates him as a boxer?

 

Sven Ottke and all that is wrong with boxing should be the title...

This is what knaws as me as well. Had he been a mere beneficiary from the corruption started by his promoter, I'd dock him but wouldn't judge him too harshly.

But in the Reid fight, his behavior is a disgrace and warrants the largely inaccurate hatred he receives with respect to his other fights.

Also, if he received the official scores during matches while his opponent didn't, he's a total twat and his entire record becomes tainted.
