With Ottke he obviously had talent to compete at world level and hold his own

But it was all about minium risk for maxium high reward.

It was all about money and possessions and keeping the title for big paydays.

He was high up in German Society - he knew elite type people.

The country was being done proud by having such a long serving "World" Champion

Once they got the titles in Germany they were never leaving.

While I call no boxer a complete coward.

Compared to other boxers Ottke is a Coward - he was someone who expected "help" to win fights with zero risks

Markussen robbed ... hardly ... Ottke won that one fair and square!

Larsen - well a much closer fight no doubt, but a robbery... the two did so little actual boxing in that fight, that it should have been ruled "none contest" ... in myt book it was ok that Larsen didn't become worldchampion on that performance eventhough I agree he was the least bad fighter in the ring that evening.

    As for Ottke in general...

He did what he did very well ... he was a real pain to watch and got a few dubouis desicions - but a few possitive things can be said too.

    1. he fought four times a year!
    2. he actually fought his mandatories
    3. he KO'ed Mundine - now that KO still makes me smile :D :D :D

I'll go further. Those who give credit to whatever Snottke had to offer to the boxing world should be stripped naked, covered in tar, put on fire and sent through their city of birth. Snottke's style was reminiscent of what pure computer boxing would look like at its worst. No special angles, no particularly hard punches, no spectacular uppercuts or hooks. Had he boxed more outside Germany we would never have had to even talk about him on this board. :!:

"a **** of the highest order in my book"
    :lol::lol:

I also disliked his style as well as his personality. However, honour where honour is due.I gave him props for fighting regularly and taking on good names.
To tell you the truth I am still puzzled why the hell he was such a huge draw in his native Germany.
I usually got bored silly watching his extremely lame performances in the ring.

I don't because it didn't matter whether he took on a hill-billy from asstown or Joe Calzaghe. He would be given the victory anyway if it was Germany.

It seems some people love believing in myth instead of the truth. :-( I know why I don´t post often in the general part of the board. Too many biasad people without any knowledge posting there.

Obviously, you are an Ottke fan and your posts are not objective. I watched all of his fights and a lot of them were corrupts.

It was not just the Tate and Reid fights. First of all the guy got title shot with just about 10 professional fights.
This was due to Sauerland due to Sauerland's good relations s with the IBF which date to back Maske. He did lose the first fight to Brewer so he should never have won the title in the first place. Plenty more controversial fights then followed. The highlight was the Reid fight.

This is just not true. They could not have gone either way because the officials were corrupted. Would he have beaten Brewer, Tate, Reid, Mitchell and the others with his STYLE in the US? The answer is NO.
