Sweat Pea vs. Floyd.

I think Whitaker in his prime was better than DeLaHoya, as evidenced by an older Whitaker BARELY losing to a prime DeLaHoya. That having been said, an older DeLaHoya lost by 1 or 2 points to Floyd. Using DeLaHoya as a benchmark, I take Sweet Pea by unanimous decision, 8-4.

 

A prime ODH was not that good....he had the same stamina issues and was a complete and utter one hand fighter..if anything his right hand AND DEFENSE got better over the years..He kept his hand speed....Hey.mosley on FNF..

 

De La Hoya's stamina was not questioned at any point in his career, until the last three rounds against Trinidad, then the Mosley defeat which followed.

He was actually well known for closing the show up until he blew those last there rounds against Trinidad. Molina, Gonzalez, Whitaker, and Quartey were all fights which support my judgement.

 

Can't base it off of a single common opponent.

In terms of picking a winner, I think the fight would lead to a disputed decision. I don't think either man would clearly get the best of the other. Both are too skilled for it to be a clear cut win.

Sweet Pea REGULARLY threw 1000+ a fight in his prime.

BTW, I have broken this down many, many times over now.

-Pea was his equal in speed (you could argue who would edge who till your blue in the face).
-Pea was better defensively (Pernell is regularly considered the best defensive fighter of all time....Floyd is "arguably" the best active one).
-Pea had the better jab and overall offensive arsenal (I mentioned the jab first, seeing as how Floyd has been troubled by this in the past...plus Whitaker's body work was fantastic, another area YOU MUST exploit vs Mayweather).
-Pea has fought the far better competition (tho Floyd could make a run...ya never know...but even if you look at this stage of their respective careers, its Pernell by a landslide).
-Floyd has the better power (This is his one GLARING advantage....BUT!!!)
-Pea has a ROCK SOLID CHIN (couple that with his alien like defense...Floyd's power DOES NOT COME INTO PLAY!!! Remember, Pea has been hit by MUCH harder punchers than Floyd...I think its a fair assessment that Floyd's one advantage, isnt going to effect the outcome).

All of that said, Floyd is a freak. He is fast and accurate. He is strong (deceptively for his size). He is great defensively. He would keep the fight close. But Pernell still takes it clear and easy.
