Would you like to pose a matchup? I used to argue Duran all the time in the classic forum, so please give me someone else.
Okay. Although Duran was the first name to jump to mind, I'll go with Sugar Shane. Surely he would have posed a lot of problems for Pea at 135. Let's hear it. :thumbsup
I don't think he would've posted too much honestly. How would he have went about it? Here's the thing with Shane, he's almost exclusively a mid-range fighter, and one that has shown susceptibility to a skilled pure boxer with a good jab. With Whitaker, he would be fighting one of the very best boxers of all time not only on the outside and with the jab, but off the backfoot, which would lead Shane to not be able to play his game, which is to stay in range and get in for a nice combo, preferably mid-ring. With Whitaker, not only would he be faced with those style problems, but also someone far harder to hit and much more accurate than Shane has ever faced. Shane is by no means a defensive wizard, he's a skilled brawler on offense as well, not pin-point accurate. Against Pea, he is not able to fight his game as Pea's style, jab(which is key), and ring generalship force him to play aggressor, likely eating a lot of jabs and other combos, while he is only able to be successful at certain points of the fight in the middle of the ring. That is not, however, where the pace of the fight will be dictated at. Pea 9-3, bad matchup for Shane.
Mosley was at his peak during his early welterweight days. Where IMO his handspeed was at its quickest. And a noticeable difference IMO beyond dispute compared to his lightweight days.
