At 135 Whitaker could hit pretty good. I like him to stop Pacquiao at 135. At 140 and 147 he out boxes him.
Excellent. If you look at pac's punch output, he averages around 68 per a round. The welterweight average is 58. I would call him a VOLUME PUNCHER with some boxing skills, not a boxer-puncher. He needs the damage to accumulate before he can KO someone as his fans like to put it.
lol you speak in the plural...he fought one, who he put on the canvas 4 times. Unsuccessful would constitute either A. losing B. to a lesser extent, not landing The other counterpuncher he stopped brutally in his first fight at the weight and then OUTBOXED in the rematch. Come on, you're just hating.
You realize that boxer-puncher is a term representing a spectrum of skills right? Pacquiao is more puncher than boxer, but that doesn't mean the term doesn't apply to him.
When Pac's still at 130 lbs, it will always says, Pac got Koed if we make esb polls about Pac vs Big welters like DLH, Hatton, Cotto and PBF, and Sweepee by ud will always wins in the polls. Pac already Proven most ESBer wrong!!! ONLY Pacdbest see it clearly. I hope after Pac KOes PBF that You guys will be finally enlightened. Then we are going to make the polls again.
These poll threads are interesting because of their ironic nature. It always seems, even though the poll is a landslide, like the people with the minority opinion make the biggest noise in the thread. Like this one. Pac fans are going berserk, but the poll, as of right now, is 12-3 in favor of Whitaker (rightly so IMO) It reminds me of the poll asking whether or not Floyd blatantly ducked Pac. At about the 500 vote mark, is was 86% to 14% that he indeed did. But if you didn't look at the poll and just read the thread, you'd think it was at least 60-40 that he didn't. I've noticed a lot of the polls and accompanying threads are like this.
True indeed but the only times we saw pac look like a boxer was hatton diaz and and dhl ... dhl and diaz we too slow (diaz naturally slow .. dhl was shot) and even hatton landed some nice shots but he couldn't handle pacs power .. so the term boxer/puncher doesn't really apply to pac .. he to me is like a super gatti in the point of he'll fight a diciplined fight until he gets clocked and then he'll go into a give and take mode
I'm fully aware of that. I'm just saying, that's a descriptor/characteristic of his style, not what his style is. volume puncher is just a term for describing workrate at it's core. Watch the cotto fight closely, you'll see him counter with his uppercut, drawing cotto in and capitalizing. he has recently shown much improved boxing skill in terms of combinations, lateral footwork, counterpunching... He's not like Gatti at all, he's about 25 times more mobile and better at intelligently using combos. He likes to brawl, but that doesn't make him a Gatti. JMM brawls all the time and you don't hear people calling him a brawler. I'm not saying Pac is an intelligent boxer- i am saying that his style incorporates some of the finer points of boxing.
Do you also categorize "counter-puncher" as its own style, or is it just a description for you?:think
Difference with floyd and all those guys is that u don't look @ floyds size as the primary advantage .. everyone of those guys main claim to a victory was size ... that's not the case with floyd ... pac has a punchers chance but I don't think he is goint to hit may with a 1 hitter quitter ... its going to be a whole lot of pressure .. movement bothers pac ... and to be honest floyd has advatages over pac across the board ... u can make ur case why pac would win but to assume its a hands down pac k.o. is pretty riciulous considering both these guys histories
Yes and no. Counterpuncher as a term can certainly be called a style when applied to some fighters, PBF being a great example. But usually the fighters who employ counterpunching as the main point of their boxing are basically just boxer-types with a defensive mindset. I like the traditional groupings of styles: Swarmer, Slugger, Boxer, Boxer-Puncher, and Unorthodox... terms like counterpuncher, volume puncher, brawler, defensive cutie, are mostly either descriptors of a component of a style or just another word for the same thing.
