For his fight on March 5 against Kaizer Mabuza, Zab Judah will have one of the all-time greats training him, Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker. Should be interesting to see how Whitaker's skills and techniques as a fighter, translate in the corner for Judah. Zab is already one of the most skilled boxers in the game today, and adding the knowledge of Sweet Pea, will only add to his success as he makes another run at 140lb supremacy.

judah idolised pernell when he was young. if that's true he'll be thrilled, but it's too little too late.

I think it will motivate him more than improve him.

They trained together when Zab was in the amateurs and the common story cited when espousing Zab's prodigious ability is that even then, he held his own with Pea. However in this case I see no reason to suggest Whitaker will have any positive effect on Zab and if anything am more worried about the fact that lately he seems to be collecting different trainers like they're ****ing pokemon.

Motivate him...Very good point. And that's exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.

what zab needs is a time machine to take him back 20 years and a trainer -father-figure to instill discipline and a 'i don't take any ****' attitude into him.

zab's the biggest 'what if' of the last 20 years for me

He has skills. Unfortunately, skills alone doesn't make you a success. However, you cannot deny his ability.

Most people feel the same way. Yoel leaving breathes new life into Zab's career. And bringing in Pernell Whitaker gets a lot of people excited. But we don't know until after he get's by Mabuza. Don't sleep on Kaizer though. He's a beast. A strong, relentless African fighter. Another thing people never talk about with Zab, is how much heart he has. Yeah, he has his haters, but even they can't deny the balls he has shown in fights like Spinks, Cotto, and Clottey. And please, to the haters, don't be predictable and say "what happened in the Baldomir fight?" That's garbage and needs to be put in the past if anyone is going to progress in their career.
