I knew a old fella in Charters Towers (he's dead now...RIP Larry)..and he reckons he discovered Hassen fightin' bare knuckle fights against the Air force boys based at the Salhiem during WW2...he then claims Hassen joined his boxing/rodeo troupe that toured around the area...the old mate was abit of a bullshitter so I took it with a cup of salt...but from then on in I started learning about Jack Hassen and how special he really was...

The flood of fan mail and phone calls received following Tony Hood's incisive, informative narration of the life and career of Elley Bennett has obviously caused some insecurity in the ranks....

...Hood has been swiftly and unceremoniously removed from the program .

    Larry Delhunty??

Seems most of the tent operators have a gift for talking a good deal of BS. Most of their stories are seemingly unbelievable to us city folk.

Amazing lives and colourful characters all round.

It is universally reported that Jack was discovered by Sharmans boxing tent after giving the best Air Force boxers a thrashing but nobody can say for sure so your old mate may have been telling the truth.

In all seriousness I thought Tony was very good on the night. Certainly sounded much better than the mumbling jibber that comes from his mobile phone after a few bourbons.

But it looks like the show's gone for the youth policy:

    Out: HOOD.

    In: THOMAS.

Kenny Rowsthorne is 82, makes Arnold look like a pup.

TH was excellent and we got great feedback.

    I hate you. :deal :rofl:rofl

Arnold knows the games history backwards. Should be a great evening to listen in. He has some very insightful info regarding Archie Kemps health, pre-Hassen fight & the classic comment by Frankie Flannery, re-Hassen bout, must be mentioned.

    Don't hate me.

Where do you think the 'great feedback' came from?

Yep that's him...Larry Delahunty...a ****en character alright...he gave me a mile of old newspaper cutting's etc etc...most were mainly on himself..haha...a shrewd old *****...corlorful?...certainly...I had a boxing club in the Towers in the late '90's and Larry started bein' a pest and tryin' to use me as 'his' little sideshow so I had to be a rude kunt and ditch him...a shame really cause he had a shitload more old boxing articles that he said he'd give to me...he had a book called the 'Last Showman' which was actually not a bad read...funny he made headlines not long after when he shot some kunt during one of his trick shooting demo's...sadly I think he lost the plot abit in the end...funny kunt for a yarn but...

..mate...he was a matter of fact about it so I half think he was tellin' the truth...maybe...sorta...but knownin' Larry...if he spotted someone who could throw 'em...he could bull**** enough to keep 'em on tap...anything to turn a quid...haha...funny old kunt.
