Sweetpea is the style of fighter which always beats Duran and usually beat him easily. Whitaker by UD at either 15 or 12 rounds. Duran did not deal well with great fast boxers. Surprising that he never knocked out a great fighter. So he would have to go the distance here, and no one outboxes Whitaker at lightweight.

this is true but slightly misleading. no, he didn't deal well with great fast boxers typically but he brutalized the brilliant buchanan and clearly outpointed one of the fastest boxers ever in leonard. well past his prime, many also gave him the nod against a very faded camacho.

as for never knocked out a great fighter, true in a sense but buchanan was great and TKOd and well on his way to a KO, cuevas was VERY good though past prime and dispatched in four and dejesus was equally VERY good and knocked out in 13

This is one I would not want to bet on. Naturally I believe Duran has the tools needed for the W, as he can pretty much beat anybody at LW. Sweet Pea on the other hand has the defensive skills to make this one extremely competitive. The tiebreaker would have to be Duran's relentless aggression. So, that being said, I would probably say Duran eeks it out narrowly by points. However, given Whitaker's skillset, he could pull out an upset on any given night.
