Not convinced that throwing punches or running in the pool is specific enough for boxing. Punching under water is too slow. Your muscle memory could get used to punching with no snap and you definitely don't want that. Punching as an exercise should always be done at speed and with snap. Plyos is key for both upper and lower body explosive strength and speed. There is just no getting away from running as the foundation of any boxing training regimen. Hill runs, steps. sprints, drills, all should makeup a fighter's conditioning routine. By all means use the pool for rehabilitation when injured, but that's it. Get yourself a pair of decent running shoes and get that road work done. There's no other way.
Its always helpful to remember a sore or painful muscle is trying to tell you something, you would be best to rest and recuperate and put your training on hold and then ease into it....but on the flip side you can always train the parts that are not sore...
With gym or related things in the share together with your measures diving. Do 3-4 minutes of diving with varying steps. You can set yourself a time period restrict like i did my final 2 measures in 70 a few moments.
Lots of top boxers swear by it. Just look at Barker against Sturm..SPLASH!!!!! Tank job.....SPLASH!!!!!!
From what I know Wlad completely removed running from his regime and replaced with swimming. Something about his joints not lasting with all the running on concrete.
You know more than me Arnie obviously, but shadowboxing under-water gives resistance, just like punching with aerobic weights in your hands, which helps not only build lean muscle but from my experience makes your punches in "real-time" that much faster and harder just my two cents though
Breastroke is probably the best for you as has lowest impact on knees really. As for the training doesn't need to be complicated. Do 4 lengths sprinting and then 4 chilled 4 sprint 4 chilled. 4 on 4 off so to speak.
Klitschkos do it a lot, have been for years now. Vitali cut down on his injuries by training in water. Of course, not all their training is is water by any means, but it has helped them a lot.............
