    Hi there

I want to back training boxing. Last year I ruined my body terrible with smoking/drugs/booze. Such a shame really.

I tried running several times again but really my pain in the feet is really painful.. lol. Really I've tried everything under the sun, expensive asics shoes, running on grass but it just doesn't work for me.So I want to get back in shape with swimming and later join a better gym.

My question is what is the best stroke for cardio. Freestyle (front crawl) is the fastest for my because of my long arms/torso but that is more suitable for sprinting. Butterfly is just plain hard but it looks cool.. and breaststroke is the one most suitable for cardio? I push myself hard everytime but my lungs are still ****. Am I right? And backstroke.. no thanks.

lol @ no backstroke. so true. i can swim pretty quickly and not very splashy with front crawl and breastroke, but i'm borderline drowning when i do backstroke.

front crawl is probably the stroke that works you hardest in my personal experience, but i would say as long as you're working your lungs and body it really doesn't make much difference.

they are all different in their own way, dont just stick to one

i like to use breast stroke as a recovery period as its nice and easy front crawl is tougher and butterfly even more so, dont worry about the damage done by drugs and booze it can be reversed quite far if you work hard and live disciplined, as for the smoking if you didnt smoke during your mid teens you should be fine if you did then the alveoli in your lungs which only develop around your mid teens age would not of developed fully had you been smoking at this time, hopefully you didnt smoke as a youngster
