Anyone know of a real good swimming program for boxing? I need one badly.

My history in boxing: I never boxed in HS or anything, even though I lived in a boxing hot bed--Philadelphia, PA. I lived 2 mins form 2 very nice gyms and 10mins from many more. I didn't really like it because of my step dad used to watch it and yell at the TV, and I hate him and so I never even gave it a consideration until I watched Bernard Hopkins vs Trinidad. He was old, had a power disadvantage and he won by using his brain. I was hooked. Never knew that boxing was about brains. I only saw Tyson, and Holyfield and it always looked to me that they were just really tough guys.

I went to the Marines, and did very good in all my sparring sessions, so I started doing it as soon as I got out. I went to Wild Card in Hollywood. I got beat up pretty badly at first and for a while too. I was pushing all my punches, trying too hard, and being pretty predictable. My trainer is the Freddie's assistant Shane Langford. He is a really good trainer, but I have a tendency not to listen, and be hard headed, so all the good stuff he told me I didn't listen. I just used all of my frustration to train! Really hard. Freddie even told me that I had a excellent work ethic. I did! But, I was training too hard. I was running like 40-50 miles a week. Fast too. We know how to run in the Marines, so I just used my experience there.

Well anyway, I started doing good. I won almost all of my sparring sessions, with a lot of good fighters,(some pro fighters even asked me how many fights I've had) and even went to have amateur fights. Sadly, the never had anyone to match me up with :| Then I had to stop because of the bad economy, and I moved out of Cali.

Now I am training in Vegas again, and I have learned a great deal of new technical stuff. But, whatever the reason, I have messed up my foot. It really hurts when I run. Even for the first 40mins of boxing each day (I do 3 times a week, with Merqi Sosa) it hurts really bad. Because I love boxing, and really need to fight. He and a lot of other ppl said to start swimming. So I can get my conditioning back (it sucks cause I am much faster now, just have no lungs or legs right now) The problem is that I am only decent at swimming. I mean I was a Marine, I can swim good but I don't know how to organize the work out.

I know that Amir Khan, Manny, Linares, Wlad all swim. Does anyone know what they do specifically? I messed up because I actually talked to Alex Ariza about swimming, but he told me to wait to talk to him and I lost my patience and left.

Any info would be great, Merqi Sosa says just to go slow and long, but I am sure there has to be a better way out there.

Eddie Futch once caught Joe Frazier swimming and nearly lost his mind, told him to get out and stay out of the pool.

I don't think they do anything special, just laps with different strokes. Freestyle if done right works your whole body, should be twisting and turning with your core and pulling with your arms. Breaststroke will work your legs ,chest, and back. Butterfly takes a hell of a lot of coordination but it's great for your core. So I guess just do a **** ton of laps with freestyle and breast stroke and get down the breathing.

Some of my old HS swimming.

    10x100 free on 105 seconds
    10x50 free on 45 seconds
    10x25 fly on 20 seconds

Basically 10x100 any stroke on an interval, except fly.
We also did a lot of 10x200 IM.

Drills are also good, breast stroke with fly kick is actually the only one I remember. This and vertical kicking (more or less treading water with your hands above your head).

i swim once or twice a week. my training is pyramid, and i swim in olympic pool but on the shorter side, so one length is 25m.

    400m (16 lengths) - normal tempo
200m ( 8 )- first length sprint, second length rest swimming (no need for speed, just resting, i do breast strokes or same thing just on my back :)), third length sprint, fourth rest etc..
100m (4) - as fast as you can
    200m ( 8 ) - same as above
    400m (16) - same, normal tempo

after this i dive length or two, breast strokes etc..

its nice if you can do 400m < 8min, 100m < 2min, but you are marine so this wouldnt be too hard for you, you can add some more things to your training, but maybe this could help you for a start.

Did you ever see Joe Swim? He nearly drowned in a celebrity sport competition. Try you tube.

Obviously the first Question that needs to be asked ,how well do you swim?

    Hello...
personally i never like this because it can produced many problem in bodies and in the history Eddie Futch once caught an outer swimming and he a most lose all his mind when every one told him to get out and stay out of the pool.
