Hey lads i was just wondering why is swimming good for boxers? I know it works out different muscles but thats all i have heard. Im interested because im going to start doing some laps because its a change from running and we all know running can get a lil boring from time to time.

    Thanks

Swimmings great for ur stamina. You can run all u want but its not going to do much to keep ur arms up at the closing rounds of a hard fight. Swimming builds alot of endurance in ur upperbody muscles which u need just as much as endurance in ur legs.

well just keepign afloat takes alot ou tof you. if you are doing nothign in a wimming pool just lieing there then you get out you will be tired as hell.

i heard though that angelo dundee says it creates the wrong type of muscle.

but to be honest it's not like you are goign to forget sparring or hitting the heavy bag for swimming.

swimming is a different kind of work, it's just superb for general toning and developing your stamina, it works all of your main muscle groups and helps heal sore joints (no real risk of pulling a muscle or anything the like under water)

Well I know, that was an overenthusiastic statement of mine.
What I mean is, there is hardly any risk

I hate boxing shoes since they don't have any kind of insole. Because of that I installed a pronation insole. It feels great especially when I jump rope and other times I put a lot of pressure on the feet.

Shoulder muscles are easy to damage if you are not careful when swimming. A few years ago I swam after my weight workout. Bad idea since I had about six months of shoulder rehab after that stunt.

I would hate to work the shoulders even more after a boxing workout. Because of my past I would fear damaging them again.
